A new look for my 1680
Sometimes it hard to know what sparks your passion until you see it. When I saw a 1680 with the most faded insert I had ever seen, I knew I wanted a watch like that. Today my insert arrived and here it is installed. I just need to get a tritium pearl to finish it off. Have a great weekend.

That looks really cool. I could see having a black insert and a faded silver one like that one and changing up the look from time to time, kind of like alternating between the SS bracelet and a NATO.

That is what I love about vintage Rolex watches. There are so many choices within the same reference. You can find dials with as much patina as you like, bezel inserts to the degree of fade that you prefer, and cases with PCG or round. Combine that with an oyster band with rivits or not or a plain Nato strap, and you can have a unique watch that is unlike any you are likely to see in the wild. When you want something different, change the strap or the bezel insert or both.

Being able to change stuff is indeed very cool. In many ways, I wished it were even more convenient (and cheaper) to change things around on Rolex. With Panerai for instance, I could change straps like crazy, and with every change it's almost like you're getting a new watch every time!

Amazing how a change in strap and insert can totally change the "attitude" of your watch!

I like that Sub. I have one that is almost identical with the faded grey bezel insert.
Its a great look especially with that massive serrated edge bezel, it looks like a buzz saw

I hate to be negative because clearly beauty is in the eye of the beholder.... but I don't like it. The insert is so faded and the dial and case in such good condition... that, to my eye at least, it looks unnatural.
On a related note, I think a partially faded insert on that watch would look truly incredible. ...Roger |
