USPS insures watches and jewelry. I've had a seller send me a watch via USPS Express Mail with full insurance. The shipment was stolen/lost in transit. He filed for an insurance claim and received his money about a month later. You just have to have proper documents but they do pay up. The best way to send watches is with USPS Registered Mail with insurance. It's extremely slow but it always gets to the destination 99.9% of the times.

You are correct sir. That is one way to ship a watch insured stateside. Our Canadian counterpart CANADA POST does not offer this service unfortunately. There is NO option whatsoever in Canada to send a watch insured and everyone currently doing so have a false sense of security. I have called every single carrier and while some will insure up to $1,000 others won't even touch a watch or jewelery.

that's a very good deal. i think its probably more hassle than its worth. right now the dollar is essentially at par, so that $8050USD plus incidentals.

its a private sale, the seller could hop across border, wear watch and ship inside the US, at which point, no one cares at all. most of canada's population live within 60 miles of the USA/Canada border... my .2 cents

are you paying taxes, what province are you buying from and how seller will ship will make a huge difference. i live in canada and had been thinking of buying from birks, mayors in florida about a year ago.

these things are always tricky, let us know how things go, i'd be interested. good luck and nice find.
