how did they make a rolex explorer? Is it specially made to climb everes t when other

watches can't go that height? I can't tell the difference between a date just and an explorer.

Ah, well, stick around young grasshopper...

Nobody in the know will ever confuse a Datejust from an Explorer..

If you request, Rolex will provide a watch that has low-temp oils and perhaps proper gaskets to be able to function consistently at below zero temperatures..........

I've wondered that too- what makes the Explorer fit for exploring? 24-hour bezel aside.

They weren't lumed in the previous 36mm version either. They just looked like they were if you saw the watch during the daytime hours.

The 1953 Explorer was just a rugged, waterproof watch. I suppose there were not that many watches with a sealed case like the Oyster. I could see a standard watch fogging up from the heat and humidity under the climbing gear.

Here is my 6150 Explorer from 1953. It is still working well and had been a daily wearer from 1953 until 2001.

Advertizing .....

As far as everest is concerned, pretty much any analog watch could have done it. There is nothing special about a Rolex being worn by Tenzing .... Seiko, Movado, Croton and even the $9.99 watches from Walmart can reach the top of Everest ... Rolex just got there first....
