Is my AD telling the truth?

Hi Guys. I've been dealing with a local AD Jared Jewelers and my contact has supposedly found a new 16610 for me. It was sent from another AD Jared in south FL. First I was surprised they could even find a 16610. She just called and said it's there and the serial is W4381269 yes W. She says it has Rolex and the serial on the inner bezel and it's never been sold. I was under the impression W was around 1995. Any input would be appreciated.

That's kind of confusing though that they're reusing the first letters (such as W) followed by all numbers...

The trick is that the new ones are made up of 8 figures, instead of 7 on the old style
