Congratulations! I really don't think you need to defend yourself, it's a wonderful brand, and the craftmanship is outstanding. There are plenty of watch manufacturers out there with attention to detail at a higher standard to that of Rolex. Most companies with the branding and marketing such as Rolex are always going to be the target of such scrutiny.

Of course the majority here are not going to 100% agree with all of your comments, as this is The Rolex Forum :)

Why do you care if someone thinks it's fake? Who did you buy it for them, or you?

Bentley and Ferrari's are fine and amazing automobiles - truly an experience to own. But it is rare to find one with more then 20,000 miles on the clock (no pun..) - just watch them cross at Barrett Jackson....cause they are driven on perfect occasions then - back into the garage!

I do like your Lange - but I live too active an outdoor lifestyle here in the great white north. And I suppose I require one watch to fit in without any worry about ruggedness, reliability - or in the event of any failure - availability of service centers..

Good luck- but dare I say it- "you'll be back." I see a lot of collectors try to shun Rolex- in an effort to "get more fancy," but alas, they come to realize- there's a lot of value in the $8,000 SS Rolex- because- there's always a market for it. It just is what it is.

The Lange is a winner, the JLC/IWC/VC or whatever else you'll get into is still out to question- you may have issues with just about anything you buy.

The only thing is- the Rolex you'll have an easier time selling if you do...

But certainly stick around- there's no getting away from a Rolex... trust me.

Great to see that you're happy with the shift...the Lange is a great piece..not aesthetically for me at all...but I can appreciate the detail.

Maybe one day my tastes will change...but for me right now...Rolex, Panerai and Omega are happiest in my safe.

I have to respectively disagree with your comparison - very apples to oranges in my opinion. For as many safe and garage queens there are probably just as many "daily drivers." Just like some of the watches held at auction the cars that cross Barrett's are amazing market examples. What you dont see on TV at Barrett's is the "more loved" cars because it doesn't make for good TV.

You can see with the naked eye how shabby the quality is and when it glows at night, it is almost embarrassing to look at. For the amount of money these watches sell for, you would hope that they would be able to check for stuff like that. I know I am not the only person who has this problem because others have this same issue as well. There are other small concerns I have with the quality control, but are not as big as the lume issue (date does not quite line up 100% straight, or the cyclops is slightly off so it appears slightly crooked etc). They have sort of lost the passion in their watchmaking and they really care more about how much money they make.

Value: The price structure is ridiculous in my opinion. Look at the submariner for instance. It is waterproof, is a basic 3 hander with a date that retails for over $8000. For that much, I could go out and buy something like a JLC or an IWC that is much nicer with a lot more complications and passion for design. I know Rolex's marketing tactic is to create simple, functional watches but the price you pay is ridiculous for what you get in return. For a brand that considers quality as one of its main selling points, they don't even really finish the movement.

Public persona: I have one big issue with this and it is how people automatically think your watch is fake. I dislike how the advertising scheme has portrayed the brand in the public eye as a result of this.
This is interesting. I was looking at some of the watches posted for sale here, supposedly higher end brands than Rolex, and the lume in a couple of those watches was horrible. It made me chuckle, thinking how some rip the lume quality of Rolex. I think it's pretty good myself.
