[QUOTE=Grissom;2185402]I think it simply is what it is......I never get torqued when someone low-balls me, I simply say no thanks! Part of the process, when selling. Hey, look at how folks are slamming retail ADs for "not giving enough of a discount"! And, as I have come to realize from years of collecting "stuff", not everyone values things the same as I do. I have periodically "paid too much" for something I had to have, and when subsequently selling it, unfortunately, have not encountered another "me", and thus, have either not been able to sell it or have had to, in some cases, take a loss......Just because I may have "paid too much" does not mean the next guy has to!!

Steve:
JMHO - I don't know that it is so much "kicking" as it is that there is a lot of competition. I started on a quest last week for a new watch and contacted three or four online seller's with the watch I wanted. Some couldn't tell me a serial number or didn't have the watch they advertised on site. Some couldn't give me a clasp code or link count. "It's in the safe deposit box"..........I always left it that I would get back with them today (friday) due to the holiday here. I already found and bought my watch.....I'm wrestling with the question of whether I owe tham a call back to tell them I already bought something???? As in the new car business (which I'm not in), always consider that 80% of those who contact you are going to buy a watch... a lot of those who don't contact you a second time, most likely have bought what they were looking for. Good luck with your sale!!! |

Buyers market
There are a lot of used Rolex out there to pick and chose from. If you're a buyer these days you can be very picky AND get a lowball price.
I looked at buying a used 116710 and counted a dozen being advertised. that gave a lot of options. In the end my dealer took care of me with a minty one out the safe so didn't need to "kick the bezels" |

Sellers should provide helpful information within their for sale advertisement.
For example: 1) at least 3 or 4 photos of the watch 2) a photo of any box and or papers included in the sale 3) letter series of the watch or some other indication of the age of the watch. 4) all acceptable forms of payment and corresponding prices. The more photos and info the seller provides up front, the better chance he will have of making a sale. Quote:

It doesn't bother me.
I sold a few watches locally, never over the net of any worth. I get many bezel kickers and low balls. 1. Don't respond to low balls. 2. Bezel kickers...I just say here is my price. Let me know if you are serious and give 'em my contact info. If I never hear back, oh well.

Cash is King right now, and most people know it. Not all, but most individual sellers, are in need of the money, and buyers with disposable cash know this. You can work most people down that are in need of raising money. Also, there are LOTS of watches for sale right now. Like it or not it is a buyers market if you have money and patience.

Nope, I have dug myself out of a temporary rut and am keeping it. Will I trade it for another version of a Sub? No. Will I trade up for something else? Dunno. For now I'll just enjoy the best looking white 1680 I have ever seen.

There have always been mooches looking to get something for nothing. If you offered a new Daytona for $1,000 there would still be some joker who would offer you $500.
BTW, if you think selling a Rolex is bad, you should try selling a used car in Los Angeles...

I am new to TRF, and I am experiencing something to the contrary. My wife has given me the green light to purchase another watch as a Christmas present. I am trying to decide between a Panerai 111/112 or a Rolex Sub Mariner. I have a Rolex date just, Omega Seamaster automatic and four automatic Tag Heur watches. My wife has given me a budget of $4,000. I know this is not a lot of money, but it should be enough for a entry level luxury watch. I know that I can get the best bang for my buck by purchasing a preowned watch. I have contacted a few sellers inquiring about purchasing their watches for sale. Most of he people I have encountered do not seem as though they want to sell me their items. Maybe it is because I do not have any posts and I am new to the forum. I just chanced upon this website while shopping for a new watch. This forum is a very good source of information.
