Another Daytona question????

Another question for you guys. On most of the Daytona pics I have seen on the black dial the markers(not sure if thats correct term) are white. On the Rolex website they appear red maybe, is that correct for the steel models? Also the website it has the numbers on the face and the other pictures I have seen dont. Is there some sort of timeline of changes for the watch?

I wish the Rolex site had more pictures on it of the different models. What changes have been made to the Daytona over the past 5 years or so?

Well,

I believe the current reference, 116520, was introduced circa 2000. The Daytona went fron thin hands to fat hands late 2005, and the Z series introduced the ROLEX ROLEX ROLEX on the chapter ring.

This is a D series,

It's the ring just inside the bezel surrounding the dial. That's the ring on which the newer models have the Rolex inscription printed all around. It also has the watch serial no. printed at 6 o'clock.

Thanks for the link and its nice to be here.

How will the durability of the watch and its finish compare to my current steel Sub?

The built quality of the Daytona is equal to the Sub in terms of QUALITY. But obviously, the Sub is a diver's watch, and the Daytona is not (yet waterproof to 100 metres).

And - this is quite a predicate - the calibre 4130 movement from Rolex is considered to be the BEST CHRONOGRAPH MOVEMENT availible on the market for the time being! That is really something!

About durability of finishes: Well.....the Daytona has more "bling bling" features, like polished lugs and centre links. So scratches and dings on the finish of the Daytona will be more VISIBLE than on the Sub.

As I stated above: 100 metres (with the chronograph buttons screwed IN, that is. If you do not screw the chrono buttons in, it is still waterproof, but "only" to about 50 metres, it is said).

In white gold Daytona i.e 116509 with ash black dial and not the enamel black the sub dial hands n stop watch second hands are red.
For the steel model 116520 the black dial have no red hands and all hands are white gold.

I see all the talk about the hands being thinner or thicker.

Other than aesthetic's what's the difference?

Are the newer and thicker hands that much nicer looking?

I know year's back the movement changed from Zenith to Rolex --
What years did the movement change?
Does Rolex, in fact, manufacturer from scratch the new movement?
And what year did the hands change?
Any other changes on the SS Daytona?

Around 2000 the all in-house made Daytona cal 4130 was introduced Wider hands came in around mid 2005 around 1mm wider wow..There have been a few modifications to bracelet clasp, but overall its not changed a lot since 2000.
