Sometimes only blue will do.

But not too much. The blue tones on the TT and all gold Rolex Sub are too bright, almost an electric blue in my opinion. The Tudoe just seems to have it right, at least in the photos I have seen.
What was the mfg date range for the 79190 and current price ranges in the used market? |

Up until last year you could get the last gen sub like 79190 or 79090 (circa 80'-mid 90') for under $2k. Nowadays average is 2k to 2.5k like Dan said. The older 94100 (circa 70'), particularly the blue snow flake goes for $3k+ or higher depending on condition.
Initially I wanted a color bezel and dial Rolex and the only practical choices are 16610LV or 116610LV. 16610LV doesn't have green dial and 116610LV is too big for my taste. Then I started looking for a blue Tudor. Blue Tudor is hard to come by. I have been watching TRF for sales forum for a while and as you may know there are lot more Daytona and LV than the humble blue Tud. Finally found one on eBay and decided to take the plunge. My 79190 just arrived yesterday and it doesn't disappoint. There is nothing bad I can say about it unless you prefer the newer and bigger Sub. The old case and bracelet is so much more comfortable on the wrist as compared to my f series GMT II, which I happily flipped for a Tudor. I would also note that 79190 appears to have sapphire crystal rather than plastic as stated in many reference site. The crystal sits much lower than 79090, much like the current model sub. This blue sub gives the best of both worlds, a vintage look with modern reliability. |

Mine is a 76100, ca 1985 or so although the papers are dated 1 Jan 1990. I guess it sat in the window awhile. The 2nd (rather lousy) photo shows the original folded link 9315 that it came on and the current 78500 that I wear it on. Since you mentioned a 79090 the last photo is my black 79090, currently at RSC Dallas getting serviced.

I don't think you could pry my 79090 from my dead hands. A really unique watch that you rarely see in the wild. Of course I prefer the plastic over the sapphire. But both look great.
