I can't recommend buying vintage for your first 'expensive' watch for daily wear. Generally old watches don't keep good time unless you spend the money to service them properly by trustful watchman. In short, they are not practical unless you are into collecting vintage.

Seriously, $2K budget gives you lots of choices but Rolex. Omega, Tudor, Seiko and Tag just to name a few.

For 2K I would be all over a secondhand Planet Ocean or AT. Mayb even a new Bond Seamaster, provided you get the right deal. In Rolex you will be limited to Oysterdates and maybe Air Kings, which you will eventually sell to fund a Sub or something.

Well he moved on the dispute to ebay, so it's in their hands now. Honestly, the watch has grown on me quite a bit. Its nice, but it did run +3 min today...and then theres the question of its authenticity. I'd let you guys know how this turns out

Just a heads up that Ebay/Paypal will often side with the purchaser, even when they're in the wrong.

With all due politeness, I really do think you should take responsibility for your own actions here. Trying to back out and rely on Ebay/PP to correct your mistakes is not very responsible or respectable.

Also, +3 minutes seems decent enough for a 74 year old watch to me. What were you expecting?

Hmm, you are making an interesting point trev. obviously I am biased, but I really think it should be the seller's responsibility to make the return policy more clear. also, I didnt wear this watch when I was sleeping last night, and now it's over 2 hours fast, wtf!! furthermore, another TRFer pmed me and said he's seen fakes of this watch before...and the seller's communication doesnt exactly reassure me that its real. I'll let ebay decide whats fair and sell it at a loss if they rule against me

It's a 74 year old mechanical watch comprised of many tiny 74 year old metal parts. I think that fact that it's ticking (never mind keeping proper time) is an engineering feat in itself. :)

u could find airkings, date, even a datejust models. 86-87 datejust in 85-90 tz rating in that range. but as others mention stay away from eBay. for sale section here or on tz have a lot of options and great sellers. just take ur time!!

I don't know if there is a rule explicitly against that, but I think my post is pretty clear.
