My first MB - with pics

Hi all

I'm kind of a newbie to this section of the board, although I have been known to lurk around from time to time.

Now to the meat.

Was at Heathrow T5 yesterday for my flight back to Philadelphia after a week in London. I usually head straight to the lounge and not bother with the duty free shops, but it was painfully over crowded (at 8:30am mind), so I took a gander around the terminal.

I had earned a pretty penny from my VAT refund landside as a result of early Xmas shopping and items for the lady, so I had a bit of extra cash burning a hole in my pocket. Cut a long story short, after much tooing and frowing, decided to indulge in a Classique Platinum BP 164.

I'm sure I could have got it much cheaper (even with the VAT free) in the US, but I'm all about instant gratification, and wanted something to play with on a 8 hour flight.

Ohhh! Purdy!

New addition to the family.

Its new home!

Can't wait to get more familiar with the pen and the brand.

That is all!

Congrats, a beautiful pen. I use mine very, very often and have it for many years. Still looks like new! Nice how you did kill some time at the airport!!!

You'll really like it. I use mine everyday and have done so for the past 15 years. Because of the daily use it's a tad beat up, but it writes like the day I got it. I dropped it a few times and one of those times the lower barrel shattered and had to be replaced. The top barrel got a stress fracture at the point where the gold clip is sandwiched in between the barrel and cap with the Montblanc star. Having paid $30 to have the lower barrel replaced and the fact that I'm cheap I just wrapped a thin piece of electrical tape around the upper barrel. The tape can hardly be seen and it did the trick. Anyway, enjoy your pen.

Congratulations! That platinum 164 is on my wish list and perfect budget introduction to MB pens (for me that is!). Cheers,

Chris,
It's been a month (almost) since getting your pen. So, how do you like it?

Most excellent choice. I've had mine for over 20 years. Use 7 days a week/365 a year.

Just picked one up today and am very exited. I was trying to choose between this and the rollerball but decided to get ballpoint as this is my second one as already had the MB Noblesse Oblige rollerball...

Any MontBlanc pen would be nice to have but remember there are ballpoints, rollerballs and fountain pens. So go to a store and check them all out to see which style you like best. Then check out the many pens in each style to see which one you want/like. I happen to be partial to fountain pens(and now only buy those) but I do own some MontBlanc rollerballs and one ballpoint pen!!!

I had the same MB - and lost it :( The only pen i ever lose and its a MB...

I still remember the purchase - no planning whatsoever - went into MB store in Munich and made the purchase. I'm off pens right now because the thought of losing my MB pisses me off...

I know you're kidding and all, but Monteverde makes capless gel inserts for the MB ballpoints.....they're pretty good too.
