Which watch to add? Portuguese or Sub

I know this is a personal decision, but I'm racking my brain and could use some help. Here are my current watches: Panerai PAM 48 (40mm), Rolex Explorer II (white face), IWC 3717-01, an old Tag and a Baume Mercier dress watch (last two are both quartzes).

Except for the Baume, which I don't really like to wear b/c it's a little small and a quartz, I don't have any traditional dress watches. As a business lawyer who wears suits on a regular basis, I feel like I need a good dress watch to wear. Am thinking about selling the IWC 3717-01 and buying a Portuguese Chrono. I know not a true dress watch, b/c of the chrono function, but definitely dressier than the 3717.

Having said that, I really, really enjoy wearing sport watches and the Rolex in particular. Good looking, well made and very comfortable. So...I'm thinking instead of going the dress watch route that I embrace the sport watch thing and buy an older Sub (w/o selling any existing watched). Seems like the Sub should be in any watch guy's collection. And since my wife likes to snag my Explorer II, would leave me with a Rolex sport watch to wear at all times.

So what should I do? Sell the 3717 and buy a Port Chrono or another dressier watch (perhaps JLC or Chronoswiss), just add a used Sub to the collection, or something else I'm not thinking about?

Thanks guys.

I'm in a similar position. Own plenty of Rolex sport models. Moving to dressier, complicated pieces. Looking to getting a JLC Master Calendar (I have a JLC Master Control Moon and I love it). I am also looking at the IWC Portuguese Automatic. I prefer this model over the Chrono because of the in-house movement, date, exhibition back, and deployant clasp. Tough decision between the JLC and IWC. Oddly, the JLC may be less expensive.

I have a staple of Rolexes and will be flipping them for dressier offerings. One day I'll get tired of all this and trade everything in for that special Patek or A.L&S.

There is an IWC Portuguese Chrono on sale in the classified section. I pondered the purchase as well.

I suggest you get something dressier that will look special. I get more complements from my JLC than any of my Rolexes and it certainly has more complications (if you're into that). The IWC will certainly stand out on your wrist.

I used to wear sport/diver models exclusively, but since I stopped diving and working on the water, I decided to wear dress watches only. I now prefer the clean dial of an elegant dress watch. I don't think you can go wrong with the portugese, it is a gorgeous watch.

I prefer the look of a DJII myself if i was looking for a nice dress watch, with a white dial of course.

I've been wanting to get a dress watch for some time and have been looking at many over the past few months, one of my options was the IWC you're considering, along with the 7-Day.

I like a watch that is very dressy but in SS, I don't like YG and I can't rationalize paying for WG when it looks almost identical to SS, there are limited SS choices out there, here are my finalists in preference order:

JLC Grand Ultra Thin 40mm in SS, black dial on black croc with deployment clasp (reference 135.84.70)
Glashutte Original Senator Sixties 39mm, black dial on black croc with tang buckle (reference 39-52-04-02-04)
Glashutte Original PanoMaticDate 40mm, silver dial on black croc with deployment clasp (reference 90-01-02-02-04)

Seems you're in the same place I am, look them up, you may like one of these that I think are dressier than the Portuguese Chrono and cost around the same give or take.

I have the RG Port Chrono and its a beautiful elegant watch.

Only negative I can see if that its a 30 min chrono so just keep that in mind
if you actually need a longer timer.

Tough decision, but I would recomend going for a dressier watch as well. It's always nice to have that option availible for those times when you need one.
