What do I pay? 08' YM 168623

I am looking to make my first purchase. 2008 Brand New Yachtmaster 168623 w/Blue Dial. I am told retail is exact same as a 2009/2010 model, but they will give me a "deal" if I purchase the 2008 they have in stock. This is a very reputable jeweler, authorized Rolex retailer. Can any advise what I should expect for a discount off list? I do not see the benefit of purchasing a 2 year old model that is "brand new" unless there is a significant incentive.

As long as it was a BNIB Yachtmaster wouldn't really bother me what year it was. So have they mentioned what deal they will give you, on obviously old stock to them ? Tell them you will deal for a 20% minimum discount. The fact it is a TT model, they might go for it off list. A nice watch and a good colour dial by the way for that model.

Does the 08 model have the ROLEXROLEXROLEX and serial number engraved in the rehaut?

I know the newer models do, but I don't know when that started.

Not sure if you prefer the engraving or not, but you might want to check into that.

my 2 cents, good luck!!

I have seen pretty decent discounts on the TT Yachtmasters. You could look here is the classifieds and even check ebay for prices...(not endorsing for purchase). It is the new release SS sport Rolex's that are more difficult to get discounts on at least in this area.

If it has the ROLEXROLEX rehaut then you can see the serial number.
If there is no ROLEXROLEX then it is an older model.
Retail price for the 2008 16823 was $9050.00
Retail price for the 2010 16823 is $9800.00
A little cheaper if it is equip with a lady's bracelet.

Thanks for the posts! It does have the serial # and rolex etched rehaut. Last time I spoke to the rep we were at $9300, I asked him if there was a difference in price between this and one I would order (a 2010), he told me there is not. I asked why I would purchase a 2008 instead of a 2010 and he told me I can get a better deal on the 08'. I was under the impression there was little to no wiggle room on a new Rolex, which is why I am posting here. I was told list is $11 and change...

For example here is a pre owned. I have bought from him before. Is this like the one you are looking at?

Are we talking about the 16623 or the midsize 168623?

List is $10,875 on the 40 mm and $9,800 on the midsize.

Sorry for the confusion, it is 40mm. I do not have the knowledge or confidence to purchase a pre-owned (as you can tell). I figured the first would be brand new. It seems like 20% is the consensus... however I think they are already taking off 10-12%. I should have posted with more concrete numbers; I have been shopping around so much everything is starting to blend together. I will probably go with a 2010 unless there is a good $1k+ diff in price.

If the midsize I would say 20-25 off of todays prices... this would be fair IMO. Also depends on your intentions with the watch. If you are going to keep for years, who cares about the serial. If you plan to flip in the future it could be an issue

My mistake, it is a 40mm. I think this just shows my lack of knowledge and desperate need for advice.

Adam is right. The 35 mm models aren't popular at all and very hard to get rid off.

Besides, the 40 mm is fitted with the 3135 calibre (same as the Sub-date), whereas the 35 and 29 mm have the 2235 (ladies movement) incorporated into them.

My suggestion? Go for the 40 mm.

JJ

Thanks for the help! I have no intentions of getting anything other than the 40mm (just screwed up the model #'s). I think 25% is a good target, I am already at 10-12% with a 2010 model, looking for a little more incentive on the 08'.

25% is a good goal but I would settle for 20%.

Is it true there are no "discounts" on a New Rolex from an authorized retailer? We have been talking about an old inventory item, what about an new order?

In these desperate times of recession, rest assured there will always be discounts. If you think you are despeate to make a purchase, you should see how desperate the ADs are to roll over their stock.

No, it's not true, it varies from dealer to dealer.
