Thanks for all the comments!
I still love the older case style, but since the Sub-C is my current daily beater, I've had a lot of time to get used to the new lug style. As many have mentioned, it looks polarizing at first, but it grows on you after awhile. Here are some extreme close-ups of just the lugs and bracelet I took on the beach today. There is actually a very sexy transition between the wide lugs and the bracelet, very much in harmony with the dimensions of the bracelet and the direction of the brushing makes it even more harmonious. |

The lugs are okay!
But the classic ones also do have their charmes.

I'm lovin mine. I have the Sub C black and a 16710 GMT black. I switch between both. The new case and braclet does give the watch a more expensive feel. I can't stop looking at mine and i've been wearing it for six months.

The lugs are fine. You won't notice it in real life as much as say... the short hands on the new Explorer

I thought I'd revive this thread after 4 solid months of wearing the Sub-C non-stop. I've started to backslide just a bit on my infatuation with the lugs, particularly now that I've worn short sleeves a few days with warm weather (pretty much frigid winter until a few days ago). Certain angles of the lugs + bracelet are just a little bit over the top, but I still love the watch. I've just started to have a slight yearning for the slimmer lugs of the pre-ceramic. Call me crazy and I'm sure it is just a phase.
Anyone with fresh perspective on the thick Sub-C lugs? |

No probs here. Then again, since I've got some older Subs and SDs as well I can always switched back/fwd if I like.

Thanks for the side by side pic. I guess I never realized that the case on the Sub C was different than on the GMT-IIc...Go figure...Now I'm not too concerned about having both watches in my collection...

I think the lugs go with the case and look proportional. I understand why people love the classic older subs also. But For the price that rolex is now charging, the new case and bracelet seem more substantial.

I had a choice between the two versions when I bought my classic sub TT and went for the slimmer look. Although I do like the other enhancements.

I like the lugs actually. Makes the watch fit in a little more with the current trend of larger watches while still maintaining the perfect size.

I also love the newer lugs, makes the watch appear more modern and solid (was solid before as well) but "look" is the keyword. I just love this damn watch!!!

I love em..
I was a little skeptical at first but now I can say that it is a terrific addition to the oyster case.
The classic design is nice as well but I don't ever see myself going back. |

i prefer the classic, the new case is a jump forward and has lost the connection with the past.

I think they suit the watch well, they make it look a bit chunkier which I prefer.

I said no to the bigger lugs and that was the main reason I settled for the classic 16610, which I think is more refined and balanced watch and looks much better on my wrist. I do understand people's fascination about the maxi dial and the improved bracelet, to me, I don't really mind these updates as the classic sub is what it is, a timeless classic.

The SubC is another much needed iteration to the classic Sub and finally gets some updates that IMO have been needed for years. |

As with all recent buyers, I had a choice between the old and the new.
The technical enhancements make the new Sub better right off the bat. Much better IMHO. The larger lugs give it a more masculine look- end of the day, isn't it still supposed to be a tool watch, therefore sort of look like one? I've read a ton of posts concerning the new Sub versus the old Sub. I know I missed it somewhere but I cannot find anyone mentioning that, just maybe, Rolex spent considerable time and effort deciding what the new Sub would look like. Obviously, I think they hit the mark dead on. In a couple of years, the new version will be the new "classic". It happened before and has happened again. Standing still is rarely a winning strategy. Kudos to Rolex. |
