rolex for lefties...

i was just thinking today about rolex for left handed people. can you order a rolex for your left hand or do you just flip the internals around to make it a left handed watch?? has anyone does this? is it even possible??

Interesting idea, as far as I know they all come with the crown on the right side. I believe Panerai still makes some left handed models though, the Destro ones.

When I wear a watch on my right wrist, I just put it on upside-down relative to how it would be on my left wrist and it's all good.

The crown is actually better placed that way and has less of a chance to be damaged or gouge a hole in the back of your hand.

from memory there is only one known "genuine" Rolex with the crown on the opposite side. And even though it is owned by James Dowling, probably the worlds best known collector, who appears to have paperwork from Geneva confirming it as genuine, many still poo-poo its authenticity.

Here's the original thread on TRF

Yes there have been a few left hand wind watches made by Rolex a few Subs and DJs.But that was quite a few years ago now,but I am sure with enough cash and contacts even today you could get one specially made to your spec. They only made a few in S.Steel and just a very small number in 18kt gold subs. Plus some that were specially made for the left handed Comex divers. And a very small amount of the DJs were specially made in the mid and late 1950s highly collectable now but now as rare as hens teeth.

I am a " Leftie " so wear my watch on my right hand, it's never ever bothered me, but the answer to your question is Yes. I have seen many Rolex left handers over the years, mainly in Auction Catalogues.

Don't see why it would be that difficult, if its a no date watch like a Sub ND or a Milgauss, having a watchmaker rotate the dial 180 degrees within the case would do the job, the movement doesn't know what way up its meant to be.

There was a 14060 that sold off Timezone a while back where Jack@IWW modified the dial feet to make it a destro. It sold for a song.......I should have bought it.

Borrowed pics

It does most likely require repositioning of the dial feet which kinda stinks. You had better plan on keeping it if you make this modification because the resale value will bite the dust

Both Steve Mc Queen and Bruce Willis were and are lefties. Any photo's you see of these two stars, always show their watches being worn on the right hand. ( But not left handed watches )
