Rolex has big watches!

Just looking through some online dealers of Rolex watches.......& Rolex has gone bigger almost across the board these days. They are keeping up w/ trend/demand.
Dress watches......41mm daydates & datejusts, 38mm Cellini danaos. Sport...
43mm deepsea sub, 44mm yachtmaster 2, 40mm milgauss & 39mm expl.

& on the corp. Rolex site they've put the 36mm datejust in the women's section!!!!!!

Those who like the classic Rolex look but want a bigger case have choices now. I am curious as to how the bigger Rolexes are selling?????

& what next @ Basel?

Probably an 'adapt or die' mentality going on.

Initially I was unhappy with the design evolution,
However rolex executes flawlessly.

I find myself stunned at the dealer bc all of the
New product is frankly amazing.

They are selling like crazy, even in a down economy. I also agree that the 36mm datejust should be in the women's section as I plan on buying my wife one.

I was personally down on Rolex for about a year or so, buying Panerai, Omega, IWC and even a Breitling, but the upgrades and improvements have brought me back.

Maybe the changes will make the "ladies" 36mm Day-Date values plummet, and I can pick one up for a song.
I'll not be holding my breath.

40mm is perfect for me, anything above that I may not be comfortable. Having said that, the Rolex sporties are just what I have hoped for. It's a different story for the DJ and the DD though.

Hardly supersized Bill we are only talking about a few mm over/under the normal Rolex sports ,in my book a supersize case is 47mm and upward.

Rolex sport watch should "sport" the largest cases. How about a "legitimate" enlargement of the SUB C, GMTII C cases to 42MM from the current obese lug concoction. Keep the DSSD where it is. Downsize the YM to the same 42MM as the SUB C & GMTII C. All above should also get 2MM wider bracelets.

Well Padi, I guess you are right. A few mm indeed. But to the naked eye...there is no mistaking the bump up in size. For Rolex, I guess the wider / boxier shape are supersizing of sorts.

I have a late model DJ so I like the bigger cases. LOVE the GMTIIC -tho I do not have one yet.

The DJII...now IMO, visually these bad boys seem supersized to me compared to my 36mm DJ.

Big heavy watches are fine for sedentary people. For more active people, smaller, slimmer and lighter watches are far more practical.

The older style of Rolex may not feel as expensive when examined (for some reason people always equate weight with quality) but they do make better and more comfortable sports watches and sacrifice nothing in durability.

No one wants to do any sort of strenuous or adventurous activity with a giant lump of uncomfortable, heavy metal on their wrist getting bashed around. With the newer oversized models you can replace "sports models" with "sports themed dress watches". E.g. The Deepsea uses commercial diving fantasies to sell expensive watches to office workers. Rolex have no interest in sales figures amongst real saturation divers because at best they represent less than 0.1% of overall Deepsea sales. The design philosophy of the watch reflects this.

There is already evidence that many people are getting tired of the oversized watch fashion. Plenty have already tried and moved away from very big watches. Also amongst the very fashionable they are regarded as getting rather passé and amongst the conservative they are cliché.
