Matte Dial 16800 - Thoughts?

I came across a very nice 16800 for what I believe to be a close to reasonable price.

My hesitations are that RSC recently replaced the Hands and Crystal.

If the watch looks good, would you consider buying it? Or with the hands and crystal being replaced would you pass?

What would you consider a good price for a 6800 recently serviced with new hands and crystal
(yes its been polished)

Please consider by criteria in looking for a sub currently.-I love old subs, and that is what I want to wear, but I plan to use it as a tool watch and it will get abused. Must have sapphire crystal, and I do not want to be worrying constantly that I am destroying a mint collector piece.

Fire away boys.

I definitely would. I'm in the same boat. I like vintage, but I can be pretty hard on watches. That model, with the matte dial and the sapphire crystal, seems like the perfect solution.

Of course, most Rolexes are pretty darn tough, but I agree with you: There's no point in buying a $7,000 watch and beating it into a $3,000 watch.

Good luck with your decision. ... Deldog

If you feel that's it's a good price then go for it, however just to clarify on the replacement hands, these will be lumi vs. the dial which will be tritium.

Do they match now? Are they all White? And is this going to bother you.

Finally, how polished is the case.

Usually, Rolex replaces the matte dial along with the hands on the 16800 with a later gloss wg surround dial if needed.. However, if it bothers you, it is a lot easier to source a period set of hands than a period matte dial..

In any event, these things always depend on why you want the watch.. If you are a serious collector and building a collection of originals, it may not be the watch for you.. If you love the Sub and this one is practical, sound, with a thick case and lugs, and modern lume hands - for the right price, it's a good deal..

If there was only one iteration of every model, there wouldn't be any variety or much of a market, would there...........
