I rather like my Rolex box and do not see anything wrong with it. Like some other posters I am not particularly interested in paying anything more just for a fancy box.

I suggested 4 box types, the tool watch people don't seem to care as much, & the bejeweled camp seems to care quiet a bit... & everything in between...

I don't think anyone here really cares deeply about the box. It's more of the principal that when spending so much money, it would be a nice touch. Clearly Rolex knows that they have no incentive to improve the presentation because the watches will sell anyway.

It doesn't bother me that they didn't come in beautifully finished wooden boxes because that would have only added to the cost of their watches.

the cost of rolex has gone up and will continue to go up. that is a fact. the question is: is the timepiece getting more expensive to manufacture? aside from the rising value of gold, i dont think the movements themselves changed cost wise by much. what we are paying for is advertising and profit, not that there's anything wrong with that. what i'm saying is no matter what kind of a box a rolex comes with, the price will always increase. so to say "i would rather pay for the watch and not the box" is IMO an irrelevant statement.

The box is a bit ordinary. Other watch brands I have are indeed stronger on this aspect.

If Rolex watches are priced on the basis of willingness to pay rather than costs, then as long as WTP > watch + box production costs if Rolex found it profit maximising to make a beautiful box to accompany their timepieces they could do so if this is what was required by the market. |

The vintage boxes had a touch of elegance (picture borrowed from Mr Wood!):
