Anyone wearing this stuff? How do you like it? Is it holding up as advertised?
LL Bean has been letting me down lately. Lots of their stuff made by the lowest bidder. Seems I'm always sewing loose buttons or sending things back. The same with Patagonia and their foreign (sweatshop) manufacturers.

There's a travel guy on TV (I think it's some kind of extreme travel fishing show) that swear by his Rohan shirt.

I've had great results with Columbia clothing items.

Jack Wolfskin doesn't wear right for me and since I've never used any of their gear, I am of no opinion.

+2 on Mountain Hardware. Their stuff is solidly built. I have had one of their backpacks for some time now and it has been on several trips with me. Great quality, IMHO.

Can't recommend Ex Oficio since they are also very inconsistent when it comes to their sizes.

North Face makes the best pants IMO. Have 2 sets that are very comfortable and have been thru a lot. In second place on the pants department would be prAna.

I used to have a ton of Mountain Hardware and Patagonia. Now all I buy is Arc'teryx. They are a Vancouver, Canada company and all design, manufacturing etc. is done right in Vancouver. Great clothing!

I can highly recommend a Filson wool vest. I have not had much luck with there boots or tin cloth raincoats however.

Patagonia, and Mountain Hardware as other have said, are all good choices.

The North Face (TNF) is my favorite outdoor wear company. TNF never let me down. I have tons of stuff from TNF (down jacket, fleece jackets, fleece vests, synthetic insulated vest, soft shell jacket, ski pants, gloves, shirts, casual pair of shoes, pair of sneakers, socks, flip-flops...did I forget anything? LOL). I just picked up a pair of stylish TNF board shorts at the TNF store this morning. I am lucky to have a TNF store close by. I also have some goods from Patagonia and Marmot.

I've had good experiences with them. However, they do look very... military looking. Which could be a good or a bad thing depending on what you are doing and where you are.

As I get older I'm finding that I'm more interested in clothes that last a long time and are high quality. I'm mostly interested in casual clothes and light jackets as I'm not hiking or climbing anymore but I spend a lot of time outside in inclement weather. LL-Bean is good for this but I feel in some cases the quality is slipping.
I have a Canada Goose Expedition parka and it seems to be well made but I got it at the end of the season so I really haven't tested it yet. I'm pretty confident that it will keep me plenty warm. I wont buy Patagonia. They charge prime prices but have their products produced in 3rd world sweatshops (the disclaimer on the website is weak, at best).

If that's the case Bill, I'd recommend the 5.11 polo shirts. The collars are reinforced so they never curve up, the material is very tough and resists fading and they are overall a good deal. Ive had around 10 for about 2 years and they are still in good shape.

For outdoor jackets I have always gone with North Face. I bought one of their down parkas in 1975 and it lasted for over 30 years!!!
