Shockingly... Yes it's normal to get scratches on polished surfaces.

Scratches are considered defects, and if you find one, i would call your AD immediatly.

The more highly polished the easier to scratch. Like polished centre links scratch more easily than brushed.

Ok I see some people are having fun ... to clarify my question ...

I just wanted to know If I'm getting more scratches than others ... cause I put my new Rolex ( week old ) to a lot. I would have liked some pictures of what normal wear would look like on the Explorer polished bezel for comparisment.

I bought the Explorer it for what it is ... a tool watch ... I do not pamper it and as I mentioned in other threads I live a very active lifestyle.

I just like to know wide range of things about stuff I'm interested in (even if some might consider my questions strange or stupid) ...

My Expo II seems to wear very well, I have worn it everyday for months now (bought in sept/oct I think) and checking the bezel whilst typing this it seems all ok

Off course in the UK we have only just started to shed our jackets and jumpers

Now watch me crying next week on here saying I have scratched it

Rolex designs there watches to be scratchable so that people will know when they need polishing.

Scratches are inevitable. I got my sub c lv , less than a month , and already have a scratch in it. I actually feel relieved there's a scratch , now I don't have to worry about babying it and just wear and enjoy the watch.

Just wear it and get over it....

Not trying to be rude but its a tool and meant to be used
not a piece of art to be stared at.

When I send my watches in for service I usually ask them not
to polish as I do not mind the wear and I rather not have the
metal taken off in a polishing.

When I first got into quality watches, I was terrified of getting scratches and when one appeared, would go to great lengths to remove it.

Now I just enjoy my timepiece and when service time comes, the scratches stay - the engine is far more important.

The Explorer looks great and is made to be worn and worn and worn. Enjoy the watch and enjoy the experiences you and it share

This is normal for polished steel. These will probably polish out using some Cape Cod as already suggested. In the long run, if you are really bothered get a brushed steel watch or just come to terms with it.
