Used Sub...advice please
Hi
I currently have a D series 116520 white face and a Breitling Aerospace. Now I have an itch for a Submariner. I saw a used one (SS) in Kuwait two days ago, it is a late 90's model, 1997 I think. The price is KD 1100, which is about US$ 3,900. I only had a brief look at it. Condition is ok given its age, the strap has a fair bit of wear though. I tried to change the date but could not? That worried me a bit, but maybe I was having my blonde moment of the day? So, if this price sounds competitive, I will investigate the watch further, i.e. check the papers, service record and take a few pics. I am not desparate so will not rush into something... What are the views on the price, given the model etc Thanks in advance. |

Seems to me that maybe IMO its about 600-800 dollars to0 high.
Its about 14 yrs old. There's been several improvements since then and that model still has lug holes , I say save your money and look for one that at least shows that improvement . If your patient I am pretty sure you can get one for about 4k to 4300. |

Ok, thanks for the advice. I did suspect that it was on the high side.

If you were to factor in a service, you could pull in a newer Sub in better condition for not a whole bunch more!!
Enjoy your search....The Sub is a must have!

Agreed! A watch that old will need a service. If you can negotiate the price down any further I would wait and look for a better deal. Good luck!

It's hard to compare prices in different countries because availability and demand dictate different values...
In the US, 3,900 is a pretty typical price from a Dealer for a serviced older Sub Date.. This one sounds like it has not been serviced, so I would say, based on US values, the price is a bit too high......... Perhaps you can negotiate the price down though....

You mentioned you could not change the date. This is at least a service. Or, maybe a service plus parts.
