Rolex changed the serial numbers for the AD's that deal with the AVERAGE watch consumer not for the WIS that are like us. The average consumer of virtually all goods want the latest, newest model of anything they purchase at a fair price. The people that purchase ultra high end limited edition pieces like Patek might be the exception..Of course it doesn't apply to ultra high end automobiles or other goods that are dated. Those consumers are not average and still want the newest.

n other words, you don't look at a chart of guesses to determine when a watch was new, you add the new watch serial to the database to extend the charts usefulness

That's a great point. Its seems that people are going to feel their owed a discount now because the serial number is not random.

Its like when you buy a classic car , are you going to demand a low price because of the year or know that the miles on it tell the true story.

Fact is if the watch is new and bought from a AD what does it matter when it was made, its brand new ! It has never left that store.

Think of this story..

And old man finds that he has a brand new paul newman daytona in his attic that he never wore and still has the manafacturor protective stickers on it. Would that man be owed the same price as another worn model simply because its an old model or would he get a lot more money for it because its never been worn ?
