Hi George welcome to TRF myself like the bark finished myself, although not a true fan of gold watches. The bark finish and like the Tri gold bracelets are now discontinued, they were quite a expensive process to make. And not so many of that type bracelet around now.

Welcome George, another Aussie, good to see
The bark finish is quite well known. It is really a finish that is one of personal preference. There aren't many watches made by Rolex with a bark finish, and I don't know if they still make them today. My observation is that the bark finish is not as popular today as the regular finish. This doesn't mean one is better than the other, but it comes down to personal taste. I personally prefer a plain finish, but do admire the bark finish. The bark finish Day-Date does from my observations on sales does seem to sell at a slightly lower price on the used market than a watch of the same model with a smooth finish. You cannot change the finish on the watch from bark to smooth. Cheers and join in with any other questions you may have. |

Hi George, welcome aboard!
The bark finish DD was discontinued a couple of years ago. If I was looking for a pre-owned DD, it would be the bark finish or the Platinum with Glacier White dial. Both are outstanding examples of Rolex quality, workmanship, and soul.

Welcome to TRF, George.
You do have good taste in watches. Bark DD is still one of the finest examples of the Day-Dates out there. Cheers - JJ

Welcome to TRF, George. The Bark DD is my "Grail" watch. I LOVE it!!!
I am looking, but probably won't be ready to actually take the plunge for a couple of years. This is what my beauty (and probably yours as well) will look like: Cheers, and best of luck with you possible purchase. Photos of it (if you DO get it) will be most appreciated!

george,
Welcome. The bark is a great finish. One issue is that scratches and dings and abrasion cannot be polished out as they can with the smooth finish. Still, I think it is a bit more subdued (less blingy?) when worn and I like that. |

Enjoy the DD and wear it in good health.
