Umm...with the exception of one member who purchased multiple watches from his AD and got his GMTIIC for a great price in April...the prices you describe were not offered very recently.

GMT2c is a great watch. I'm sure you'll love it.
Regarding the price, as a rule of thumb, if you bought it at Ben Bridge, you paid too much. They are very firm about not offering any discounts on SS Rolexes. I don't think it would be too hard to find 5-10 percent off from another AD.

I agree. Tired of hearing the same old story that there are little to no discounts on sports watches.

Although I cannot name the AD, I got mine for $6460 + tax and credit card fees, right here in the Bay Area, this month! I went to several AD's who laughed when I asked for a discount under the retail price, but I kept looking.

This forum is so helpful.
Ben Bridge also offers 3 years of initial service/warranty. Is that worth anything? |

Hind sight is 20/20. Enjoy your first Rolex, you paid for it, so you've earned the right to wear it. I probably could have paid less than I did for almost everything i've bought. GMT IIc is a watch to be proud of and wear with pride.

Paid $5800 out the door for mine from the AD but that was mid 2009.
The prices have been raised several times since then so I don't think that price can be had anymore. Bottom line, you have a great watch and excellent taste. Considering it was Ben Bridge, you got a great price. My very first Rolex from them (long time ago) was full retail...zip, zero, nada discount. |

Thank you forum for all of the perspective and advice. I did something radical. Even though I like the look of the GMT IIc the most, I decided to return it. Instead I got the 166610 LV. I am not a huge fan of the green but I like that it is less common - I rarely see it in the display case. In fact, my AD had it in a drawer so it was not on display. I had to ask for it. Which seems like an awfully bizarre thing to do because if they have it I cannot see a good reason to hide it.

Just because not a "huge fan of" does not mean I do not like it at all. The fact is I really like the GMT II c and Sub c. Both are new design Rolex sports watches with 50+ years of heritage - versus the bigger is better monsters being produced from most of the other brands. But I have to admit that the black on the GMT IIc is the most appealing to me from an appearance standpoint but I like owning a Rolex that is a little less common and will be a conversation piece to those that I know who follow Rolex, but not as fanatically as those on this forum! I am also fulfilling the third generation of Rolex ownership and I want the latest design as I figure it will last the longest.
Why do some dealers hide way the 166610 LV? That does not seem the fastest way to gmt the watch sold - which I would think is their objective - as I was not charged a premium. I did not get any discount though. |
