TUDOR 72033 - Gold Bezel
Hello - This is my first post on this forum.
I recently acquired a Tudor 72033 Prince Oysterdate, which has a gold bezel and gold crown. I'm wondering whether the bezel and crown are solid gold or gold plated on this Tudor model. I have been told that the two-tone Tudor bracelets are gold plated, but I don't know about the bezel and crown. Can anybody shed some light on this? Thanks. Rick in Portland, OR |

Bezels and Crowns
Rolex, acting as the Tudor-maker, never used plated gold in their bezels. What you most likely have is 14K, as until about 6 or 7 years ago, that was the grade used by Tudor.
Crowns are 'monobloc' meaning there's a core of stainless surrounded by the finish metal. That way there's enough metal strength to take the screw/unscrew/push/pull/turn stresses of normal stem/crown/tube functions. True to rumor, gold Tudor bracelets were indeed plated, also until the relatively recent era, when they became solid 18K. If you've got an 'old' style Oyster or Jubilee Tudor two toned bracelet, then you'll likely find gold on the outter surface and stainless on the inner surface. When Tudor migrated to their newer style 'Jubilee' bracelet with the wider center link, if it's gold, then it's solid 18K. |
