There is simple saying I like to go with...it works well to respond to this..."don't be a dick"

Seriously...
I made my money working from FuturShop, and I've heard that best buy pays poorly but FS is on commission and in the christams season I can guarantee you most workers made enough to buy a Rolex (not saying they did). That's what I spent it on though, but I'm 18 so clearly it's fake.

Yeah I would just realize that I don't know the individuals circumstances and go with it. I had a new Rolex on my wrist at 21, bought and paid for in full with my own hard earned money, no help from mommy and daddy for me

Now I am 32 and have had about 50 different Rolex's, 3-5 at a time for the last several years and I never really cared what anyone else thought so I would assume the Best Buy guy was the same

Why the need to be judgmental? I would just say, "Nice watch," and go on with my life.

wasn't being a dick (can't w/my gender) just pointing out that alot of 18 to early 20 year olds still live at home and therefore have more discretionary income for toys

don't really understand how that comes of as an unkind statement

One should not forget there is a HUGE intergenerational transfer of weath that has only just begun to occur as the baby boomers die and leave their assets to the next generation or two...

When I was in college I saw a kid in one of my classes wearing a SS DJ with diamond bezel and dial. He probably came from a wealthy family or was able to scrape a couple of grand to buy the watch. When you dont have many expenses you can save for a watch. I m 26 and own two Rolexes, a TT Date and TT DJ, and I am not the wealthiest person. However its not that hard to save a couple of thousand for a watch when you have no kids. The Best Buy guy has good taste in watches and is very fortunate to enjoy a Rolex watch.

Not even remotely condescending. Just saying you never now someones situation. I'm a pretty positive person sorry if you can only look at what people say with a negative outlook.

It may be dependent upon a person's priorities. I'm a school teacher so obviously don't earn a fortune, but I drive a Nissan Micra rather than anything sportier so that I can afford my watches which are more important to me. I have a couple of friends who both earn much more than me and who both have expensive cars but wouldn't buy a Rolex. I prefer to spend my money on watches than cars etc.

Reminds me when I bought my first Rolex in 2004. Had Tags and omegas before but finally decided to pull the trigger. No discount on sub and I had great credit so I took advantage of the 12 month financing. I had my own apartment but for credit reasons I always put down LWP as I never used my address for mail. Well the damn sales lady said LWP? And the guy next to me said what are you doing buying a Rolex living with your parents? People judge too much. I learned not to judge. This economy is bad. If you see someone with a Rolex working at McDonalds or a restaurant you should respect the fact he/she is working and doing whatever they can to hold on to something they cherish. It seems people assume you should sell everything you have if you're down on your luck. Or you shouldn't have any worthy possessions if you make $10 an hour. Seems silly when the actual 5 year ownership cost of a 16610 is so low. And trading up so easy.

It is condescending as you are basically saying the items were not earned equally as someone who has to pay rent and put their own food on the table.

Anyone who buys a Rolex in my book earned it.

If you want something bad enough you can save enough no matter what you do for a living. He obviously prioritizes his money how ever he wants.

Good for the Best Buy guy, and everyone else on this thread that acquired their first Rolex at a young age. Wearing a watch like this doesn't go unnoticed.

Ok.
So it appears we have few who have run this thread past the friendly context it should have stayed in.....
Before we have anymore verbal head butting, the topic is done!
