So, all this recent talk about the squarish lugs on the Sub is making me think - how come the GMTIIC does not appear to have as squarish of a lug as the SubC?

I mean, they both share the same maxicase - so why do they appear different?

In my opinion, I think it's because the bezel of the GMTIIC is bigger than the SubC's and this detracts away from the square shoulders it sits on...

... opinions?

I wondered this myself. I used to have a GMTIIC that I traded away for the Sub C and the Submariner definitely appears more boxy and squared off.

No, they don't have the same case. The lugs of the Sub-C are slightly wider. The difference is very small, probably between 0.5 and 1 millimeter.

BTW, they have very different bracelet as well: the Sub-C bracelet has GlideLock clasp and a half-link, and it has one more removable link at each end of the bracelet, hence it tapers more agressively.

Definitely a different case. The Sub C case is resistant to 300 mm as opposed to 100 mm on the GMT IIC. Stands to reason it would have different dimensions just like the classic models. They are really different watches.

So are we sure they are different cases?

If we are basing it on WR, that may be false. Remember that the water resistance is dependent on the slimmer caseback on the GMTIIC vs on the Sub.

I still need some truly definitive evidence that we have 2 different cases here. I'm still not convinced.

There was a thread awhile ago where someone posted measurements and photos. Seems like the Sub-C was a mm or so widercat the lugs.

The cases are definitely different. The main case of the GMT is slightly higher than the SUB case. In contrast the case back of the SUB is clearly higher due to higher pressure resistance.
