What is the point of the plastic bezel guard on the Ceramic Sub's?

Just a silly question I know but I can't imagine why they would put that thing on a super tough "scratch proof" bezel insert? I can't imagine it's meant to be worn for any purpose but why is it even on there for packaging purposes?

Any ideas? Forgive me if it's been covered, I couldn't find anything specific in searching.

Because some think these bits of plastic are more important than the watch they must have a full set including all the sticky back plastic. And today many paying for these bits of plastic packaging stuff on places like ebay, if they did not get one with there watch. But even the ceramic insert if you hit it hard enough just like the sapphire crystals it will scratch or mark.

Good question!

Maybe it is to avoid finger prints on the bezel while the watch is in the store and potential customers and the sales personnel handle it.

The ceramic bezel looks fantastic, but it IS in fact very very sensitive to fingerprints, and that looks awful....

I think, that the protector serves 2 purposes:

1. Avoid fingerprints from the entire part
2. Protect the metal outer ring from getting chipped or scratched and as we all know - ceramic is scratch - resitent to a degree, but it can be chipped as well).

Maybe some regard it not to be necessary but they belong to an entire concept to achieve a certain quality at the end.

I never saw so much plastic and stickers in a new watch until I saw a Rolex at an AD. I left all the "protection" for my Daytona at the AD.

Actually, that must be the reason. Keep the bezel as shiny and blingy as possible....

Or, just force of habit?

I know it's tempting to make fun of anything that might protect a Rolex, but on the Sub C, there's a raised, very thin wire edge just outside the ceramic that can ding up very easily. I know it's going to happen if you wear the watch, but that's not what we're talking about here. Perhaps Rolex felt a piece of plastic costing a few cents that allows an 8k watch to sit in a dealer's case, and be tried on and handled a few hundred times without the watch starting to look dinged up and not quite brand new, was a good idea. Just a thought.

To protect the steel edge of the bezel, of course.

I don't know why one should make fun of all the plastic Rolex sticks on their watches. Watches accumulate scratches quickly when handled in the showroom (where, under those bright halogen lights, they're especially obvious). The plastic keeps the watch's steel surfaces pristine for the new owner to enjoy.

Packaging that protects a product's cosmetics is commonplace in many industries. Think of the plastic sheets that Apple puts over everything. Plastic is cheap. I'm surprised Rolex didn't start doing it decades ago.

Sure, he or she will likely put some scuffs in right away, but that's his or her prerogative. It makes buyers feel better and it takes a lot of the risk out of letting more potential buyers handle the merchandise.

I didn't get a bezel protector with mine. I had assumed they only came with the old metal bezels.

That said, I didn't put the watch back in the box when I bought it. I put it in a watch pouch in my courier bag. I figured that if someone wanted to snatch the Rolex bag out of my hand I'd rather the watch wasn't in there!

Not sure what I would have done with the bezel protector anyway. It goes in my watch winder when I'm not wearing it rather than the box.

Probably because some owners are so much up their own backside, they find it hard to even consider an opinion other than their own.

Why would anyone remove the bezel protector, satin finish look, Original to the watch. Heck maybe the hangtags should be left on to dangle.
