Thanks for all the response! I've decided on a SS/Gold Datejust from Montecristo. Turns out Ultra Diamond's watches were refurbished, which kind of destroys the whole point..

After many calculations (heck, I even called ADs in Hong Kong and Singapore), it seems most logical to buy locally! Even after strong conversion rates, it's actually more expensive to bring one up from Seattle. Quite surprising, eh?

Thanks again for all your help

Guys, we should have all done a "group buy" with Montecristo. If we were buying multiple watches from the same store maybe they could swing a bigger discount ;)

Great idea which I have been thinking about myself. Multiple purchasing is a powerful tool that can be used to extract the best possible deal from an AD. Approaching an AD as a group of serious buyers would make some store managers day, I'm sure. All it would take is a little organization to get interested parties together to approach an AD with a group buy plan. I am sure they would even consider booking a private purchasing session in order to get the biz.

Let's try organizing a TRF group buy for Vancouver, or B.C. for that matter.

Excellent choice! The TT Datejust is a great watch with a timeless design. If I were you, I would discretely try both of the Montecristo ADs and see who offers you the best deal. Don't forget to go for the freebees - I got a Rolex bill fold, Kevin Klein umbrella, and free subscription to the Montecristo magazine out of Harvey at the downtown store.

Glad to hear you did your homework regarding a possible U.S. purchase, especially after finding the watches were "refurbished" which IMO devalues the brand. Quite often you find all kinds of non-Rolex parts, bezels, and dials on these watches that destroy the classic look. If you ever have to send one of these watches to a RSC for repair, they will refuse to do the servicing unless you agree to have all the junk removed. I have seen many of these modified Rolex watches at auctions or in other retail outlets, and won't touch them with a 10 foot pole!! A waste of money.

Group buy does sound interesting. I have wondered about this with watches, as it is a common practice with other types of products.

Yes, I have seen this done on car websites. The only difference is that they usually focus on one particular part (floor mats, exhaust systems, chip upgrades, body parts, etc.) for one model and invite every member on the site to participate. With Rolex, due to the enormous catalogue of models with custom dials, bezels, etc., it will be a little more challenging, but not impossible. Pick a date, do a lunch, invade the AD's after contacting them to see if they are intersted, and find out if it is worth the effort. I thing it would be great fun with the added bonus of personally meeting other TRF members and Rolex lovers in Vancouver. What the heck, bring along the wife or girlfriend, or both LOL!!

There is a Vancouver GTG thread in the Meetings and GTGs forum. We should continue the group buy and GTG discussion over there.

Right SALEM65. It is best to continue the TRF Vancouver dialogue in the "Meeting" area of the TRF website. Please see my response.
