I'm afraid of buying new TT Subc because clasp is a scratch magnet
I'm afraid of buying new TT Subc because clasp is a scratch magnet. A friend got his on a Friday and by Monday he regreted buying it because of this. His clasp was all scratched up.

I don't mind scratches. I see them as battle scars and makes the watch even more personal. Some folks store watches in vaults and keep them in pristine condition by not wearing them. That's cool it's their money and they should do whatever makes them happy. I on the other hand buy watches to wear.

My sub has the new style clasp that is 2 tone as well and no, its not scratched . . . Yet. I have no doubt at some point it will get scratched, but they can always be buffed out. I've got a stainless SubC with the newest design clasp and that has a minor scratch or two. If you wear the watch you WILL get scratches. Why worry about it> Enjoy.

If you love the watch, then go for it and don't worry about scratches are they're bound to happen. My Daytona clasp is polished and has some scuffs but it doesn't bother me at all. Hardly noticeable by others at a distance.

dont decide based on scratches u might get because you will. I bumped my watch very hard on way exiting the metro, and it was a cold canadian winter day i had many layers on so i thought my watch would be safe, i got a bad scratch next to the crown! it still hurts. perhaps they fix it when i send the watch for service in 10 yrs! ;/

They come wrapped in plastics at the clasp; it may be feasible just to keep that on the clasp. It is very subtle.

Don't worry about scratching it..It will look almost as brand new when you have it in for service a couple of years from now.
Buy it and enjoy it my friend

Yeah, the design on the new clasp (sub) makes it more vulnerable to scratches...or it makes the scratches more noticeable. You'll get used to it, after the 4th and 5th scratch....I know I did.

I have PCL's on my Milgauss GV and was very paranoid at first but now have a few light scratches on it.
Only I notice them and will be buffed out at service anyway. Go with the flow and enjoy it. That or just stick to the SS Sub-c. |

Its meant to be worn....
Scratches are part of life. If you drive your car odds are it will get stone chips so should you just leave it in the garage?

Your particular Rolex back clasp fear of scratching If left untreated may worsen
to the point in which the person's life is seriously affected, both by the phobia itself and/or by attempts to avoid or conceal it.... ie. covering the clasp with a double wrap of sellotape. Worse... if you trade the two tone Sub for a Breitling...I am not kidding. |

Do not even think about getting a tt Sub. The polished center links, in gold no less, are not just scratch magnets, they are scratch-black-holes. They will suck every abrasive material and scratch opportunity in from light-years away.
Instead get the SS Sub. First its center links are SS, second they are brushed. They may pick up marks at some point as well, but a little application of Scotchbrite will make all as good as new in a heartbeat. I can't help thinking the tt watches are Rolex's cruel joke on watch-lovers. |

When I first got my submariner, I was afraid of scratching it up. As time passed I did get some scratches, swirls, and even got a good ding on the side of the case. I love all of the marks and gives real character to my watch. Best wishes on your decision.

I thought I got a lot of scratches the first week I had my SS sub, but after that they haven't really gotten any worse, and it's now 4 months old.

If you don't get it someone else will, and they will enjoy the watch (and the scratches).

I would not worry about it a bit. Its a watch and YES it will get scratches due to the PCL's. I have a GMT C and the clasp does get scratched however it is so easy to remove them with some cape cod's if your that concerned

Put it on a strap...ta da...no clasp...now all you have to worry about is the watch head. Can't help you there.
