Hi,

I recently inherited an S-series 16713, with no bracelet. I had it serviced at the Rolex Service Center here. Afterwards, they tried to sell me bracelet #78793 for quite a bit of money. I then pulled out a TT Datejust I own, with bracelet #78363, and asked them to remove it from the Datejust and fit it to the GMT. However, they told me the spring bars are too thin for the GMT and wouldn't do it! Later I figured out that you only have to change the endlinks mated to the 78363, from 458B to 401B. Then the thicker spring bars for the GMT will be able to run through the 401B endlinks.

First, could someone tell me whether my thinking is correct?

I think that the spring bars of the GMT should fit the datejust bracelet as well. Have you tried the GMT springbars in the datejust bracelet yet?

Actually yes. While at the RSC, the lady brought the bracelet removed from my DJ (in the back, by the technician) back to the front desk and let me try to insert the GMT springbar into the endlink. It did not work. The diameter of the through holes on endlink 458B was too narrow for the GMT springbar to go through.

Yes, the GMT springbar went through the last center link on the bracelet with no problem, but not the endlink 458B, which I suppose was designed for mating with DJ's (and some other models?).

You can fit your Datejust bracelet to the GMT by using the Datejust springbars..

Datejust springbars are 1.8mm thick and GMT springbars are 2mm thick..

Using a DJ bracelet seems pretty common, however you need to be aware that the contour against the case is not a perfect fit..

As for the endlinks, your Dealer should have been able to order a pair to fit the bracelet to the watch.

Thank you very much for the suggestion. I may have to just use the entire DJ bracelent with the endlinks and live with the imperfect fit.

Yes, the imperfect fit was the reason RSC gave. And yes, I did call them later to ask them to order me a pair of GMT endlinks, which I believe is 401B, but they refused to do that. They explained that these days Rolex HQ is very strict: the item returned to the HQ must be the exact replacement sold to the customer.
