1680 prices

What prices can one expect to pay for a 1680 nowadays?

Not a ''minter'' but in decent working order, some thing one can wear each day and not worry to much about.

also same question for a red sub in same sort of condition

Many thanks in advance

$4,500 to $5,000 for a not so perfect 1680. As far as a deal on a red Sub, my take on that is, if it's a deal, it's not just a red Sub but a "red flag." It's tough finding one for less than $7500.

Time-to-go had nice red Sub for sale here on the forum about a month ago. And it wasn't priced bad either, actually it was priced rather well.

I shopped for one for several months earlier this year and nice 1680s were closer to $5000-$5500, even higher with recent service and/or accessories. The 1680 reds were $8500-$10K, and more with goodies. A lot depends on condition, matching hands/dial patina, datewheel, case, originality, etc... So many variables. Good luck with your search!

got mine for 13k for a red MK6 with B&P from Mark Lerman in a really good condition am happy with (includes a 9315 and 93150 bracelet). Am sure if you keep looking, know what you are willing to compromise on and are not in a hurry you will score a decently priced hit.

I paid just over $16 ish for my Mark IV red with double punched papers and all the trimmings - I even have the original purchase receipt and finance papers. But mine was in absolutely mint condition and had just had a basic service to the movement (nothing changed visually) in 1982, so she still has the original non triplock crown, fat font bezel and the chamfers. Mine came from a collector in France who, I believe, sourced it originally from Jed.

But as Ken will attest, you pay for what you get in this game and if you want the best and want collectors to release these beauties into your care, you need to add a sweetener. Otherwise its pure luck as to what comes on to the market from time to time and how quickly you can react. You don't think Ken bought his "glory babes" on e-bay or off the internet do you.....

I prefer to pay more, get the best I can afford and not have to panic buy to beat the rush....
