Both are great watches but if the criteria for choosing between the two is which one will stand up better to daily beating, then I'd say keep the Exp II. I sold my Daytona (white) because I became frustrated with the number of scratches it accumulated on its bezel through daily knocks.

Exp II Polar was the first Rolex I ever lusted for... and it gets the most wrist time by far, it's better as a daily weare due to the brushed case and bracelet so you can't see minor scuffs or fingerprints
Having said that both are great watches and you can't go wrong with either... Here are a few few pics...

All very good thoughtful responses. I think most of us have been in your predicament at one time or another. My heartfelt suggestion, as difficult as it may be to hear, is to keep the Expy II and save for a Daytona. You can get some great prices on a LNIB from the trusted TRF sellers here. That way you have the best of both worlds and will never regret your decision.

I have a Daytona and really like it, however it sounds as though you like what you already have. Keep it, enjoy it, and save for the Daytona.

Hi Tom, just wanted to throw my two cents in. I own a White SS Daytona and a RG Date Just. I had the DJ about 3 years before I purchased the Daytona. I now find myself only wearing the Daytona. It is a great everyday watch. My profession requires that I wear a suit often and the Daytona looks as good with a suit as it does with jeans. I have had the Daytona for about 4 months now and while I am careful when I wear it I not longer stress if it accidentally hits something. To date I have no scratches to note. I had the same question as you about the Daytona being a good daily watch. As one member of TRF told me wear it, have fun and when you send it in for servicing later it can be returned looking like new. Good luck.

I think he Daytona is perfectly fine for everyday use. As far as missing your Exp only you can decide. Neither the Exp or Daytona do it for me so it's pretty much up to you and your preference.
Good luck!

Watch without date is not good for a daily beater. IMO

Thanks again to everyone who posted. I really appreciate all of the advice.
I had the Daytona on my wrist over the weekend and I loved it! However, I also realized how much I still love my explorer. Ultimately I decided that while the daytona is still my dream watch, I can't give up the explorer to get it. Time to start saving! The explorer will soon have a Daytona for a neighbor in my watch box. Thanks everyone! Tom |

Tough choice by far Tom! And I congratulate you on coming to your decision. The Daytona will be there when you're ready to purchase.
OK, now I'm going to hijack this thread! I've got the exact opposite issue. I love my Daytona, coveted it for years but that new EX II is SINGING LOUDLY TO ME!!!!! My AD says I can have the first one they get... but I really can't keep two Rolexes right now. So, I'd have to give up my Daytona ... Do I do it? Or just wait until I can get the EX II without selling the Day? Or do I buy a timex? |

Explorer is more appropriate for a daily beater.
