Hey guys
Have owned Rolex watches for some time, but never knew this site existed (don't spend much time on the computor anyway).
I have read through some of the posts and found most to be informative and some to be exacty what you would expect as any other forum out there. Lots of various opinions.

I just purchased two Rolex watches off Ebay. Both are new, and were inspected by a local jeweler who is very knowledgable and is also a Rolex AD. The one thing he mentioned was that one of the watches was from overseas. I assume the serial# told him this? He said no warranty would be available through the AD's here in the US. I don't have an issue with that since I very seldom wear my high end watches. I think Rolex only covers them a couple years anyways. That was not a deal breaker for me.

I guess my question is, I saved around 4K on two watches buying from a long time Ebayer with high feeback. Are watches from overseas an issue at all? Other than that, my jeweler said they were in fact brand new and I had made a good buy.
One post I was reading made mention about "Gray Market" watches. I assume this one would fall into that catagory?

Thanks for your feedback!

Your local guy was able to pick this by 3 digit number known also as Country code. This number is noted on your Rolex certificate.
Vry well said Nick!!
And Divmat the Gray Watch thing is just a watch which is sold without issuing a bill n not officially imported in the country where it is sold like you purchased a watch in US but it was legally imported in UK so it would b a gray market watch for US but its equally good n completely genuine rolex as Nick said all these are manufactured by Rolex in Switzerland.
So I would say a vry good move n saving $4k. Enjoy ur watches in the pink of ur health.

First of all:

Welcome to TRF!

As Nick stated, the person that authenticated your Rolex knew where it came from by looking at the country code on the certificate.

You can see a list of most of the country code in the FAQ section here on TRF just in top of the page with the "General Rolex Forum"

As for him not willing to service it: IF your Rolex certificates are dated with a date that is less than two years old and if the certificate originally was bought from an authorized Rolex dealer, he has the OBLIGATION (if he is a Rolex Authorized Dealer ["AD"] to honour the WORLDWIDE two-year guarantee that Rolex offers!

Except, of course, in the US, where any "third party" intervention voids the original 2 year warranty. In this case, the ebay seller is the buyer before you; therefore, warranty void for you..

However, there is seldom warranty work needed in the first few years of use....

This is exactly what I was told by my jeweler. Of course I don't expect anything to happen in the first two to five years of service.

I did look at the 3 digits on my certificate and it shows 888 which is from Hong Kong. I assume the ebay dealer I purchased it from would need to be the person who can get any warranty work done in his area (florida, if in fact he is original purchaser) and the local AD would accept the watch in for repair If I understand you correctly? As long as the warranty date is still valid.

That would stand to reason. If I took a trip to another country and made a purchase, I would expect Rolex to service it here.

Thanks for your input! Also, I understand some people would never purchase a Rolex on Ebay, but I feel if the person selling is a reputable Power Seller with very high feedback, I really cannot see that person not standing behind their product. There are sereral that come to mind like Yousaveontime, and Generalwar and several others that have been consistant on the quality in what they describe online.

I own approx 15 Rolex watches and all have come from online dealers. My Jeweler who actually worked at the Rolex factory, and is an AD, has personally inspected each one and gave thumbs up to all but one. That watch came from a well known jewelery store that replaced it with one that better fit the description as it was originally represented. Overall I would not worry about buying online, as long as you stay with the more reputable dealers that have been doing this awhile. I have saved Thousands over AD prices.

Thanks everyone!

If you bought 15 Rolex online you probably saved enough to buy 10 more
Good to hear that 14 out of 15 are genuine, keep it up.
Pictures? Any vintage ones?

Larry-
The dealer told me his AD or supplier leaves the Warranty Certs blank. All I have to do is fill in my name and the US dealer should service it as I am the original purchaser ?
