Curious about Sinn quality....
Hoping some of you own or have owned a watch I'm interested in & can provide some feedback on the brand. I have never handled a Sinn but I've heard good things about the company. In particular, the Sinn 103 has caught my attention & I would like to know how the quality compares with Rolex. If I decide to pick one up it will have to be sight unseen so your opinions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Allen

I have a Sinn 656 (for about a year) and had a 203 Arktis. (I only sold the 203 to buy a Sub LV). The quality and features are excellent. They keep excellent time and are well built of quality materials. The 103 is very similar to the Arktis I had and the same size. 40mm case and 16mm thick. The only thing I disliked about the 203 was the way it sat on my wrist. The case design makes it look thick. The Sub is about as thick, but doesn't look it. the Sinn is like a stack of coins with lugs. The bracelets and clasps are top notch and adjustment is easy with the provided tool. I still have my 656 and it's my tool watch and has taken a beating and still looks great. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Sinn. BTW the Arktis has the most beautiful dial of any watch I've ever seen. It is blue with great lume and looks different at different light angles. Go for it, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Sinn quality is excellent. I have a 756utc teg and a 657... rugged, well engineered, with a simple, functional appearance. Recent price increase just like others.

Can't compare to Rolex (though I hope to, soon. Keep your eyes open for my post regarding first Rolex choice), but I've owned a 103 St Sa since March. It was my first mechanical. I love it. Sure it's tall, but remember it is a 7750. Most significantly it's been sub +2 sec/day. The countdown bi-directional bezel is excellent as a rapidly deployed "timer". The AR hasn't scratched, and doesn't seem to have any unusual propensity for smudging or finger prints.

I had a Sinn 103 UTC Ar Ti and, foolishly, sold it. It was a great watch for an 7750 movement piece. It is no Daytona, but doesn;t cost like a daytona either. I was happy with mine and can't even remember why I sold it - but I wish I hadn't.

I've had one of these since ealier this year. Below is a link to a post I made when it first arrived.
http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=161961 My opinions have not changed about the overall quality of the piece. It is not a Rolex, but it shouldn't be at the price point. As has been mentioned above, the bracelet and clasp on this watch is outstanding, and it is one of the easiest to size yourself that I have encountered. Everything you need to get it sized and on your wrist is in the box. I still very much like the look of the watch, and enjoy wearing it in my rotation. To expand on a few things previous posters have alluded to: 1) The A/R coating on this watch has been fine to date. However, I AM having issues with the A/R coating on the exterior face of my Sinn U1. This is the only negative thing I have to say about Sinn (and they aren't the only one doing this, re: Omega) - the design decision to put an A/R coating on the exterior of a sapphire crystal is something I don't care for and it may be a driver for me on any future purchases. That being said, it has truly not been an issue on the 103 at all, and most people never experience a problem with it on any watch. I'm thinking of just having the coating removed entirely from my U1. 2) My 103 has run a bit on the fast side since I received it. However, it runs very, very consistently at that same rate, and I have no doubt that it can easily be regulated to close to dead on if I ever want to fool with it. 3) Watches with this movement do tend to have thicker cases, but it is a really solid and proven movement which adds alot of value to the watch IMO. The thickness of the watch may or may not be an issue for you based on personal preference. However, I will say that the bracelet and clasp can typically be fitted very well, and the watch wears comfortably. It does not feel top heavy at all to me, and it does not want to flop around on my wrist. If you like thinner watches, then this may not be right for you. If you like a piece of steel with a bit of heft on your wrist, then you shouldn't be concerned about the 103. Feel free to PM if you have any other questions. As I said in my original post, I think this is a great watch from a value perspective. It will never have Rolex cache, nor will it re-sell the way a Rolex will, but if you want something reliable and cool to keep and wear, then I think you'll be happy. |

For me the Daytona wasn't the prize I imagined it would be. The 103 or a vintage Big Block appeal more to me these days. Thanks for the feedback.

I've got a fully regimented U2. The thing is a tank! It can take anything you throw at it.

That looks a lot like the original Breitling Chrono Superocean. Sorry, nothing to add re Sinn quality.

Have had a 656 I use as my all purpose beater...have gotten a ton of wear out of it and have had no issues with it whatsoever. For a rugged tool watch, they are exceptional quality and value.
