Icon5 40 mm Explorer II, should I buy it?

I am looking at the 40mm Explorer II (serial number starts with G) at my local authorized Rolex jeweler, is it worth buying since the new 42mm Explorer II is coming out in a few weeks? (The news 42 mm Explorer with it's price tag of $7750 is out of my price range)

Is the 40mm Explorer II considered "old news" since the 42mm is coming out, should I try to save up and buy the 42mm is a year?

Thanks.

Hi and welcome to TRF.

The 16570 is a great reference and has many fans, but, only you can answer your question. No matter what, we're talking a lot of money, so, get what you really like and don't look back.

I think the 40mm explorer has the potential to hold its value quiet well, because it is now discontinued... also its a great watch, I say go for it...

Absolutely YES! I sold mine this afternoon to my brother in-law. Its the ultimate stealth Rolex and the do-it-all watch.

I wouldn't but I'm not a fan of the Explorers at all. If you like the watch go for it but I will never own an Explorer. Good Luck with the choice.

Go for it if you like it. With the introduction of the 42 mm I don't consider it as much "old news" as "the last great Exp2 reference". /Biased point of view

If that's the model you want then get it. Only you can determine which one it is you like the best. By the way just because it isn't the latest version, doesn't make it a bad refference. I have one that is almost 40 years old, but I still like it.
