SUB vs SD bracelet size
Hi all,
I'd love to have an SD and think about replacing ( upgrading ) my 14060M into an SD next time I go in Japan. I wonder what is the minimum amount of fixed links on both side you can have ?? On my SUB I have 4 fixed links and one removable link on the 6 o'clock side, and also 4 fixed / 1 removeable on the 12 o'clock side. That is the minimum I can get to. I assume the clasp size of the SD is the same of the SUB, so I wonder if I can wear an SD just fit to the wrist ( not loose but not tight ). here is a picture of the minimum config. for the SUB, the only further tight adjustment is the pin in the clasp. My clasp is not fully centered but there nothing inconfortable about that. Glad if you or anyone could let me know, or even better, post a similar picture of your SD, whatever number of links you have, with the divers extension open, that would be great ! Cheers / Pierre |

You should avoid taking off links at the six o'clock side. That is what gives this off-centrered clasp of yours.

Off center
Quote:
the off center of the clasp isn't too bad, let's say that the crown on the clasp is centererd to my wrist. the crown is slightly off-centered on the clasp. Waht I hate is having a watch dangling on my wrist. I need to be able to just slide my little finger tightly, and that is the way I wear my watch. I am doing activities where if the watch is loose it's gonna hurts my wrist ! Cheers / Pierre |

case back
By the way,
for the guys who have a SUB and a SD, how would you compare the case back ? Is that thicker on the SD ? I have hard time to see on the pictures... What I meant to say is that at same Oyster setting/length, does the SD feel tighter around the wrist, due to a thicker caseback ? Cheers / Pierre |

SD sits higher on the wrist and is heavier, it will be top heavy.
The dial will also be smaller on the SD compared to the sub-date.

Some people find the SD difficult to fit on their wrist. It is top heavy, so getting a correct fit is even more important. I had a SD and could never get it to fit just right on me, until I really fine tuned the bracelet's adjustments with a little custom work. But, it did fit extremely nice with a leather band. Actually, IMHO, it looks better and fits better with a Leather band than any other Rolex. I actaully had the AD in KL, Malaysia where I bought it (the Hour Glass) remove an additional fixed link with a special cutting tool they had. I then replaced that link with a screw on link, to give additional sizing options. Anyway, sold the watch to a friend who is a watch maker in Bangkok. Since Bought in Malaysia and sold in Thailand, did not loose hardly anything. My friend has pretty small wrist, so he really liked that he could take that extra link off the 6 oclock side. Gave him only 4 links total on the 6 oclock side and gave the SD and perfect fit to his wrist and the clasp centered.
My advice, is try on and size correctly the SD before you buy. |

Thanks all for the great infos, pics and links.
I may pass on the SD, also considering the EX II, more on purpose for my activities anyway ( no diver, hardly swimmer ) Cheers / Pierre |
