Picking a watch for my wife
So far these are the 2 Rolex watches we are down to. By the way my wife never showed interest in a Rolex but told me to go ahead and and buy my two tone blue sub F serial. Since she has seen me loving this watch so much now she wants one.
79173 K Jubilee dial diamond markers 18k stainless two tone Oyster brac. 79174 F Jubilee dial diamond markers all stainless, Jubilee brac. I know this is a matter of personal choice but I would like to hear other peoples thoughts. My wife said she would like either of these. My thoughts: Both are pre SEL and I was worried about the brac. wearing out or sagging if she wears it every day. Will the Oyster hold up better? Oyster may be easier to fix a link. I like 2 tone better but Im not wearing it but she says she likes both. The K 2 tone is $1000 cheaper which does not hurt. She asked about the K being 3 or so years older does that effect anything? Any thoughts? Thanks |

Have her look at some of the 34mm mens DJ. My wife prefers these and says that dont look like old peoples watches. Not there is anything wrong with being old. Plus they are easier to see.

She seems to like the original ladies size better. Any thoughts on the oyster bad pre SEL vs the pre SEL Jubilee band ?

If you think she likes both styles the same, you might want to consider the notion of matching the bezel type with the bracelet. It's not a hard and fast rule, but most people see the Jubilee bracelet with the fluted bezel and the domed bezel with an Oyster bracelet. Jubilee is the most comfortable bracelet, and the newer Super Jubilee bracelet is far superior and worth getting vs. the older type.
Don't worry about the bracelet's sturdiness in everyday wear, to the extent of having that determine the choice. |

I have a Datejust with a jubilee bracelet and a yachtmaster with an oyster bracelet. The jubilee is definitely more comfortable. Both will look nice and I am sure she will be happy with either. the two tone would be nice if she mixes colors. My next watch will probably be a two tone.

Thanks for the information. For me the two tone blue sub was an easy choice. This is harder picking one for my wife.

I'd look for a TT with jubilee. Diamonds if she likes them.

If the band was cared for and kept clean there should not be an issue with stretch. Operative "if". Grit is what polishes down the pins resulting in stretch. If it is already stretched, not much can be done about it. If it has minimal stretch if you keep it clean by placing the bracelet in a ultrasonic cleaner once or twice a year you will not have any problem with stretch.
Ask for a pic of the watch with the bracelet parallel to the ground. Keep in mind that jubilee have a tad more stretch then the oyster due to links being closer together. Jubilee looks great on women and are exceptionally comfortable. Ask for a three day return policy minus sellers shipping so there are no surprises.
