This will be my biggest single watch purchase as well. I can't wait tho. I want this AP.

I think I decided to save for a bit and just see what happens. I don't think I'm ready to get rid of my sub for it. I want both so it will just be a matter of time.

Russ, asking if you should buy a watch around here is liking drug addicts if you should try a new heroine or something! ;-)

I've owned the RO Diver and it is a wonderfully manufactured watch that ozes quality, however I would never own one as my only watch! To start with, it is +$18,000 for a stainless steel dive watch without complications on a rubber strap. The finishing on the case is flawless but it also rather sensitive to scratches and wear. Additionally, I don't think a diver on a rubber strap works in all environments. Sure, you can always buy the AP bracelet but that is another $2,000.

I don't know. You do have a very classy and great every day watch in the SubC, I would much prefer that watch as my only one over the AP Diver. The fact that you are just about to get engaged and then married speaks even more for the Sub I think and then put the money towards the rest of your life.

The RO Diver will surely be around for many, many years to come. Sure, it will be over $20k from AD but that is why we have a used market! :-)

Sound advice there. The Diver isn't going anywhere & if anything will expand in range. Dial options & maybe gold options.

The AP Diver in a heartbeat. Nothing compares to the feel of a AP ROO or any other AP on your wrist. A brand with a ton of history, legacy and 'haute manufacture'.

Great post. Thanks. You are exactly right...I would not want the AP as my only watch. It does not work in all situations like the Sub does. I just think this "next level" of watchmaking is calling me. I just lust after this AP. I hate the term, but maybe it should just remain my "Grail".....

Grail as a term should be killed off! It never works, because as soon as you get it 2 weeks passes and you are back to looking that the FS sections again to see what's next! :-)

Overall, it is sort of odd really, spending this much money on a "sport watch" (I would call the ROO Diver a 'sport watch' more than a diving tool) as it something you by definition will use while you are being very active and probably bang up the watch. That's the advantage of my Rolex divers, I use them 24/7, they do take a hit but nothing to worry about really. Oh well, at the end I found the whole thing a bit oversubscribed and I sold off my ROO Diver. I'll use my Rolex as sport watches and reserve the higher end pieces for more dress watch scenarios. I think.

Man these guys give good advice. Everyone looks at it differently based on lifestyles and availability of funds. To me an AP would be foolish but i still want one. So thats why ill wait for a nicely preowned one when they are not the latest greatest. For now ill enjoy looking at your guys' pics of them!

I agree 100% and that´s the same reason why I sold my AP Diver. I kept a RO 15300 as a dress watch and traded the Diver for a Sub C and a Speedy plus some cash. I´m very happy and find the Sub C a more versatile watch.
