It has been said that 10,000 116520 are produced each year. 60/40 white to black.
A series relates approximately to a year so an assumption of 6,000 white and 4,000 black D serial 116520 made. Makes the Alaska Project seem pretty damn rare doesn't it.

If that makes my D series black dial ss Daytona 1 of 4000, it sounds like an reasonable assumption to me.

Lately, it seems like there's a ton of 116520 or 16520 for sale and other grey market dealers. Either people are letting this go from the collection or they produced a ton of them and nobody's buying.

I would say the latter... people are just letting them go (or there are no/less buyers around) rather than Rolex making more, especiqally in this economy.

Time changes, really. For the S/S Daytonas.
After waiting in vain for 8 years with Mappin&Webb, I suddenly came across an S/S Daytona bnew sitting at the window of Indonesia's Rolex AD- Time Place in Jakarta last year. Without second thought, I jumped on it ! M series with a price of $ 8,437, wow, jackpot ! Only to realize later that I still prefer my older 16520s over the new one. Two months later, I sold it. Unworn, unsized. Papers and receipts bearing my name at that. |

I have been informed by my Geneva AD and this was confirmed by a London AD that Rolex has produced 499 SS Daytonas for 2010 - 2011 and production will stay low in the future.
This has also been mentioned in other threads on the forum. |

I also have one of these black dial Daytona from the D series- and I will never let go of it. I like it too much!

499? Really? That's an incredibly low number
