Supply and demand. Demand is high, supply is low -- price is high. Those wanting to play instantly will have to pay...

Yes, I agree! It IS crazy! And the MSRP is US $ 7,900. But with the SS Daytona, it is 100 % "seller's market". You take it or leave it (and wait for a LONG time to get one, unless you are lucky as Bluebull who got one very quickly).

It's the HUGE waiting list that causes the grief.

It is sad...BUT and I don't help the situation. Almost everytime I browse in a AD I inquire about a SS daytona
It's always the same answer....I am sure rolex isn't dissapointed it has a watch that is so lustworthy |

There's one here for sale, box and papers, AU$15,000. I nearly fell off the chair when he told me the price!! I think I'd rather buy a MAXI GMT and keep the change!!

All this hysteria over the SS Daytona is fine by me since it's not my cup of tea. I figure it keeps the focus off the "tool" watches, which are much more to my liking.

I was just at a AD and they were saying the stainless is so valuble, since rolex makes so few, because the movement takes so long to make they put them in the gold versions much more often. Is that the real reason?

Furthermore, the SS Daytona is still the "cheapest" way to get a Daytona, and to cut down just a few of the potential buyers, Rolex must make price increases. Of course, SOME will have no problems with paying pretty much WHATEVER price an SS Daytona may be costing (either in at continously rising MSRP or the even more outrageous "grey market" price). But many other "normal people" who have to SAVE for a Rolex to get it will eventually "leave the boat" and seek something else than an SS Daytona. This way Rolex - as I state - lets some customer's "die of natural courses"
