Problem with chrono function...any help appreciated.
Hi guys,
I am currently inspecting a Zenith Daytona P Series and am encountering a problem with the chrono hand. When I press the top pusher the chrono hand moves a little for around 3-4 seconds then stops. I thought it would be a winding problem but I already fully wound the watch and it's still not moving. The sub seconds hand is no problem, it is moving properly, it's the chrono hand that's not moving. Any kind of help would be much appreciated. Thanks |

Sounds like it's time for a service.

Three questions -
Does the chrono hand always stop at the same place? Can you use a loupe to be sure the chrono hand is level with the other hands? (simply move the hour & minute hand to 12:00 once the chrono hand has been reset.) Lastly, are you sure the chrono hand isn't contacting either the crystal or dial? IMHO, if this is a pre-purchase inspection, consider your alternatives...

Yes, it does always stop at the same place...
The chrono hand seems to be level but I can't be sure...I don't have a loupe. Can't be sure either whether it is in contact with the crystal but it's definitely not hitting the dial.... I appreciate your help...thanks!!! Quote:

Sorry to hear mate! I suggest getting it checked out! My dad's TAG Quartz Chronograph doesn't work anymore, it is a pain. Everything else works on the watch, besides the chronograph seconds hand.

If you let it continue to run, do the elapsed-time minutes and hours sub-dials keep track correctly?
And do you see any vibration or oscillation of the chrono seconds hand while you let it run?

If the chrono doesn't work, it's broke..
Sorry, too many variables to make a guess as to why...

Sounds broken to me. And as far as I know, the Zenith movement is more expensive to repair/service than the inhouse caliber if you send it to Rolex...

It wont be a major problem, i knocked my Daytona, and the sapphire crystal broke, anyway to cut a long story short part of the glass must have impacted with the chrono sweep hand because it stopped, i reset it, and it stopped in the same place, btw. the watch was working perfectly, when i sent it to my watch maker for the new crystal i also had it serviced and he straightened the chrono hand which he said was a tiny bit lower than it would normally be, result - perfect. Don't worry.
