Tudor sub, and Jaguarolet comparison

I've been doing some research on Tudor submariner watches, I read one reference that was particular interesting, and I want to ask the Tudor owners if they agree with my Newbie analysis/conclusions...

The article I read basically states that a Tudor submariner is like owning a Mercedes with a Ford engine. Is this really how the tudor sub owners feel...? The tudor subs seem to have the same case as the Rolex, with an ETA movement...

This car comparison hits home specifically because I restored a JaguarRolet (jaguar car with Chevrolet drivetrain) years ago, which I still have. I get so many negative comments at the car shows it's almost comical. Does a similar scenario exist in the tudor ownership world....?

Here - This is a Jaguar car with a Chevrolet engine...runs like a 71 camaro with the superior Jaguar suspension, looks, vintage leather and wood, etc....

Vintage Tudor Subs don't just "seem" to have Rolex Oyster cases, they actually do. Says so on the case back and crown.
There are those who look down there nose and consider Tudor less than worthy. No bother, I find value in the brand and don't waist time with what others think.

I currently own both a Tudor Sub Date and a Rolex Sub . No noticeable difference in fit or finish and of the three Rolex Subs and Two Tudors I've owned I'd say Tudor Subs pre 99' are as or more accurate. The ETA movements are modified by Rolex so if its good enough for them to put their name on it I'd say its good enough for me.Added bonus Tudors generally cost way less to service .Those ETA movements are found in some very expensive watches.

I think the 'Ford engine in a Jaguar' mentality is, in part, why Rolex pulled Tudor out of the US. In most of the the rest of the world, Rolex gives Rolex and Tudor equal billing, signage and branding in their ADs, and the watches receive the respect they deserve.

I recently owned both Rolex sub (then 5 years old) and a Tudor Sub (then 10 years old). The old difference for me was the Rolex performed at +10 sec a day, while the Tudor was +/- 1 sec over 3 weeks.

Second rate?

Good topic as I have been wondering some of the same things.

And that's a cool car in my book.

Thanks!

The Tudor watches came stock w/ the ETA movts. unlike the car which had the original engine swapped for a Chevy engine. No aftermarket customization.
Tudor watches are excellent watches, made in the same factory as Rolex, by Rolex employees.........the Jagolet was not customized by Jaguar.

I can tell you how Ex-Tudor Owners feel... Selling my Tudor Sub was the most foolish thing I have ever done. I WILL get another.

I have had Rolex and Tudor for years. I really regret selling my beautiful Tudors over the years. I get as much joy from my current Tudor as I do from my Rolexs, I.M.O the quality is every bit as good.

My one and only Tudor (panda Oysterdate) looks and feels exactly like a Rolex of the same age, so same finish, same weight, same quality. In fact, the modified ETA movement is more accurate than most of my Rolexes.

The only difference as far as I have experienced is third party recognition (i.e. most people have never heard of Tudor whereas they clearly have heard of Rolex) and, unfortunately, bragging rights with some watch people who are somewhat blinkered by brand names

I actually have a 71 Camaro...boy is it fun!!

Personally I'd like to have a blue Tudor sub...I think it's pretty cool that you can't get Tudor's in the US anymore, and the "Hey what's that" factor.
