Changing Acrylic Crystal for Sapphire

Hi Guys,
Hopefully soon I will be receiving a 6917 president and was thinking of changing the acrylic crystal for sapphire. Any thoughts on this? Would this devalue the watch at all? Thanks for the help all and Happy Holidays!!! Blake

Usually speaking, altering a Rolex watch does decrease its value merely for the fact that it is not 'original'. Even if you use orginal Rolex parts, I still have seen and heard of a decrease in value..

Not to mention a pressure test failure.

I cant speak for the 6917 but normally this is not possible as the setting is specific to a glass type.

I don't think you'll be able to do it anyway due to the design. Tools or Padi will know.

In Miami they put sapphire crystals on older ladies watches bc the Spanish clientel seems to like the change. I have seen them be able to get wet too. Call a Jeweler in the Seybold building in Miami. Try Haimov Jewelrs they have good connections there

Why change it? Plex crystals have a rich luster sapphire can't replicate. Plus, it doesn't show smudges and fingerprints like sapphire either.

x2, plexi just has more "life" to em...

It can be done though, just be sure to have a pressure test

Gotto admit, best forum feedback of any forum i've been a member of. Thanks guys.

My thoughts were that the sapphire was stronger than plexi for everyday use. I mean the wife rides horses and all...I didn't even think that the plexi had any positives, but thank you so much for letting me know because I'm definitely keeping the acrylic on.

I guess all this means is i need to find her an everyday watch :).
