Last bit'o belly fat

I've been working out a ton and have dropped from 180 at my worst to 145 as of this morning (I'm 5'8"). My problem is that I've still got this last little bit of belly fat I want to lose and it's being really stubborn. Anyone have a suggestion for how to burn off those last few pounds around your belly?

No actually I would never recommend that

Lean protein and working out. You'll lose the fat and retain muscle.

Who cares? More warmth for the winter time . Do some cardio paired with some core exercises. Keep a lean diet and drink a lot of water. Good job on dropping 35lbs though

Slow down your cardio pace and increase the intensity. On a treadmill, max out the incline (based on your ability, of course), and slow down the speed. With weights, try to work out your fast-twitch muscles primarily. Do some interval training to make your body burn fat while you're not exercising.

Thanks guys. I was in pretty good shape until I crashed my motorcycle in 2010. The drugs, lack of mobility, and depression did a number on me. I'm running/walking (broken leg) every morning for 50 - 60 min. I do weights 3 or so times a week. I've been doing the yoga and ab ripper from P90X (did the whole program before the crash). It's been great but still that little bit of fat wants to hang out.

Keep you heart rate up between 65-75% to burn that extra fat. Anything over 75% hr, I am told by trainers, just works the heart--which is also good.

A personal trainer friend of mine would recommend a low-carb diet. He said that such diets (Atkins, Zone, etc. are some variants of it) were truly meant for people in very good shape to get rid of the last 5-10 pounds that were eluding their workout and normal diet regimens. Where people get in trouble with low-carb diets is using them to lose large amounts of weight when they're not at a proper level of fitness to begin with.

Agreed.

One of my brothers has been a body builder most of his life. He purposefully bulks up weeks before a show and then goes on a strict lean protein / heavy workout to retain the muscle while losing the fat.

I adopted that approach and was amazed at the results.

I don't have any suggestion while I suffer from the same problem. Really want to congratulate you for the successful weight lost. Good job.

I'm also 5'8" and went from 176 to 141 or so. I didn't lose some (not all) of those last couple of pounds until I stopped doing the long slower cardio (running) and switched to some serious high intensity hill and stair workouts. This was in addition to the intense P90X workout. I also cut out quite a few carbs - mainly white rice and pasta as well as sugar.

There are some serious workout folks on TRF and I'm sure they'll chime in.

I am also 5' 8", (36) once I am at 150 I am rail thin. I need to stay at 160-175 to be where I need to be. My belly fat is all the way gone and then some at 160, even my arms look like sticks. I try to stay above 160. I do free weights 6 days a week for 1.5 hours or so. then i hit the cardio to round out 2 hours at the gym. after 2 years of doing that every week 4-6 days a week I am a pretty solid 185. Belly is almost all the way gone. just enough to stay healthy. I guess everyone is so different it is all about finding what works for you. If you really want to get rid of that last belly fat, My advice would be to stop eating meat all together and eat lots of plant proteins, continue the workouts as you have done. eventually with time it comes off. Good job so far!!!!!

abs are made in the kitchen it sounds like you are getting enough cardio, and three days a week of lifting is fine so now it's about cutting down all of your bad fat intake. Some fats are ok, like olive oil or what would be found in Salmon but no fried foods Also, limit your carbs to early in the day and whole wheat is much better than white in things like pasta, bread and rice, if you must.

You could also buy a thermogenic like hydroxycut, it works great
