If not fake, then a frankenwatch.....

This is my first time posting a potential dubious Rolex, but check this out.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ROLEX-SUBMARINER...QQcmdZViewItem

Go to the photo section and take a look at the stampings on the inside of the caseback. It says 16610 as plain as day. Anyone able to spot anything else fishy on this "TT Blue" Sub?

I'm not too sure if it's real, but I just don't get how someone would buy a Rolex on Ebay?? It's not like buying a tv cabinet or a dining table, we're talking a Rolex watch!!! The photos can be tricked up, the internals could be fake, or swapped with another Rolex, way too risky. Just to "save" a few bucks? Cry me a river when you get caught...

Nice catch rawhyde. The amazing thing is that they started high with the auction price. typically they start at $4k. Nice going

It could be a real Rolex, but any non-original parts tend to lower the value.

The seller admits to installing a GMT bracelet in the description.

No concern with the 16610 caseback, without the bits of gold all modern Subs are the same case and caseback. I'm not too thrilled with the no PayPal policy, and the watch obviously has some non-original parts, but they've disclosed that.

OTOH, they're a brick and mortar store, been around since '98, and have pretty solid feedback for expensive watches.

Agreed Al, it's the same part. There have been several reports of 16610 casebacks on 16613s. My guess is much like the 5512/13 interchangeability.

Isn't the word SUBMARINER NOT meant to be longer than the description beneath it? Or am I thinking of the Red SD?

eBay can be a good source. These 4 came from there after appropriate research. Each authenticated, 2 before purchase.
