Datejust real or Fake?
A local shop has these two watches, what do you guys think. If you need more pictures I can upload a few more. I have very little knowledge of Rolex, but the watch looked and felt very good in my hands. I saw the model number and serial number, which had a nice engraving between the lugs.
What I noticed is that the text on the dial was off when compared to almost every Rolex dial I could find online. Particularly the "R" in Rolex, and the A's in "Perpetual" and "Datejust" It is a ref 16030 with a 6 mil serial. It looks like this means it was produced in the late 1970s or early 1980s. It has a quickset date function. For comparison I attached a picture of another Rolex at the shop, a fluted bezel datejust with a 5 mil serial, ref 16014. Notice how the text on the dial and the date wheel in the 16014 look very different from the 16030 in the first series of pictures. What do you guys think? Does this watch look legitimate? Are there any questions I should ask the seller? |

I agree the R looks off and so does the X.
If there is any doubt whatsoever in your mind about this watch don`t touch it! |

The watch is good in my opinion, rolex used a lot of different dial fonts over the years, I see nothing wrong with it, also marked t Swiss t at thr bottom another good sign consistent with what was used at the time , the date wheel has an open 6 which is consistent with its age and a good sign it's original also. Regards.

I'll take some pictures of the bracelet tonight. He also had a two tone oyster date (not datejust) with a very short seconds hand. It was shorter than just not reaching the seconds, it looked like 3/4ths normal length Interesting? Thanks so much for the replies guys!! |
