Another 5513 question
Hi, hope I could get inputs from the experts on this 5513. It's a one owner watch bought in the 70s according to the owner. 5.71mil serial which puts it right around 1978. It looks like a Mk II or III. Not sure though but more inclined to think it's a MkIII. It definitely looks like a fixer-upper- corrosion and pitting on the case etc. But the price takes this into account.
What do you guys think? Any red flags? Would've wanted to show movement pics but didn't get a chance. Thanks in advance for your help. |

Hi,
How much are you getting it for, if you don't mind :) |

$3,700. As an added info, I would've wanted to capture the serial and REGISTERED DESIGN on the case. It did have short "E"s but the "REGISTERED DESIGN" was a but higher than usual. Hope to catch more pics tomorrow.

I think that's already a good price. There are a lot for members here who have 5513s and they were able to make excellent work on those. Let's wait for the experts to join in.

price
That price is very good if the watch were with the bracelet.
Remember the bracelet, whether you are going to wear it or not, is about $700. So paying $3700 for the head alone is like paying $4400. Which is a fair price for a watch in very nice condition. |

I just paid the Rolex service centre $900 for an overhaul of my 5513 -- which I've had for 40 years and was in good shape and running well. In addition to a full strip down and rebuild of the movement, items replaced were the crystal, crown & tube, and spring bars. It now has a 2 year guarantee and looks as-new so it was a good investment. Depending on when your's was last serviced and water-tested, you might want to factor in some service work to your total cost to be on the safe side.

Thanks for chiming in. It does come with a 93150 bracelet. While the price appears relatively okay, I'm concerned about the service needed plus I may need to source a new set of matching hands. By the way, is this is a Mark II or III?

IMO, the watch will definitely need a service. Or at least a crystal, as there is
corrosion at 10 o'clock under the one in the pic you posted. That is no Bueno. Simply put, it's a leaker and probably is the reason for the overly corroded hands. YMMV |

Dial, case and insert look great.
I would take a look at the movement and caseback before buying - there may be some pitting which can cost quite a bit to fully restore to ensure a tight seal. |
