Help please about buying pre-owned rolex

I'm looking forward to buying my first pre-owned rolex. I have questions about papers.

1. Are papers important when buying rolex?
2. Will Rolex Service Center accept your watch for service without papers or card? I'm talking about out of warranty rolex watch.

Any help is appreciated. I just want to know how important papers are when buying rolex. Thanks.

Not really important at all as long as the watch is authentic and not altered or stolen. Once the watch comes back from service at RSC you will get paperwork so you will be fine!!!
What is important is that you do not over pay and that you are happy with your new pre-owned Rolex.....

Buy from a seller with experience selling Rolex's and references you can check and you should be OK. Many of the sellers here can walk you through the process of finding a watch

Always better to have papers if possible (for resale).

Papers are great for resale, but if you just love it and plan to start collecting, its a non issue. Good luck! Show some pics once you get it.

Papers are a non issue as you get new papers if you send your watch in for service.

Papers are not critical in my opinion- unless you're concerned with maximizing resale. Example: If a clean Sub Date without papers popped up on the forum for $3000 from a reputable seller, no one would pass on it just because it was missing papers.

If you buy from a trusted seller, for the right price, don't dwell on a missing papers- after all, the warranty has likely expired. Buy the seller first!

Couple of things..

One.. There is no such thing as actual "papers" for a Rolex.. It's not like a registered puppy, it's just a watch. What most people who like such things mean is the old warranty card/cert that was given to the original buyer.. Some people like to have such stuff, but it is seldom seen outside the Internet sales scene or from individuals. It's up to you if it's a deal breaker..

Second.. You never need to provide Rolex with anything but the watch.. no papers of any sort. The exception, of course, is if it is under warranty and you want free warranty work.. then you do need to provide the original warranty card.. Once it's out of warranty though... it's never needed again..

Papers are extremely important for resale value- unless the buyer knows and trusts you you will sell at a substantial discount vs papers- and even if the buyer does know you he may be uncomfortable since he knows that HE will have a much harder time reselling without papers unless the buyer knows him
