My "new to me" Rolex GMT Master II 16710 Pepsi

Hey all,

As I posted earlier -- I have now joined the club -- with my Y-serial GMT Master II. I bought it locally from a Rolex fan on WUS (his water marks are still on the photos - which are from his ad). It was a second owner watch, with boxes (inner and outer), manuals, hangtag (with matching serial) and was in 90%(+?) condition. I feel like I got a great deal -- as I priced in the fact that I know it will need service (it has never been serviced).

In fact -- if you could check out my other post HERE I would greatly appreciate any input regarding my decision to send it to RSC or go with my local watchmaker with a Rolex parts account.

Without further adieu ...

I love the watch ... it's going to be hard to give it up while it's being serviced.

Case looks good. I would not have the case polished during service.

Looks awesome.
If it keeps good time just wear and enjoy.
And service it later down the road.

Good job man! The GMT Pepsi is probably my favorite Rolex of all time. I'm saving up for a gilt 1675 right now. I hope to join the club down the road.

It's not -- my local watchmaker checked it -- and it is gaining 23 sec a day.

My own timing versus time.gov confirms this.

The other post is about where to get it serviced -- RSC or my local watchmaker who has a full Rolex parts account and has 20+ years of experience. I really kinda of want to support my local guy just because he is so nice (and a fellow Omega and Rolex nut).

Looks in great shape. I'd try RSC movement serviced only. You'll have piece of mind and RSC service papers.

Good luck

Congratulations. I use a very good local watchmaker for all my Rolexes. I would recommend a local watchmaker for you also. Rolex is very "proud" of their pricing structure for a service which normally costs double the price compared to a service from a competent watchmaker.

Since you already have the Rolex papers you don't need service papers to help authenticate the watch. Go local.

I am leaning local. Partly because I really want to develop a good relationship with a local watchmaker for the benefit of my entire collection.

I have the inner wood box, outer box, manual, factory service book, and hangtag (with matching serial). But (unfortunately) no warranty paper. So the Rolex service paper would be nice -- but I am not selling soon (I think), so I am not worried about it.
