Should I Sell/Trade my New Non-Date Sub 14060M COSC, or Should I Keep It?

Just bought a new 14060M COSC from an AD at a very good price on Monday. I wore it for a day, and I'm not sure whether I want to keep it. Although this watch is fantastic, I think I'd prefer a 5513. In fact, I'm already thinking about selling it or trading it if I can find a nice 5513. Is this a sure indication that this is not the watch for me? Should I think about it, give it some time, wear it a bit longer, etc., or should I put it away in its box for its next owner?

Hoping to get the forumers perspective on this.

Did you not ask the forum for advice on buying the watch last week?

Yes, indeed, and everyone was exceedingly helpful. The current thread, however, does not ask precisely the same question, as I now own the watch.

My man you just bought it. I think AD are going to have to start handing out chill pills included with a free polish cloth. The watch is sweet.

I'd give I more time than a single day to male a decision. Unless it can be simply "returned" because it's so soon after purchasing. Otherwise, I'd give it at least a month.

What makes you think you would "prefer" a 5513?

Perhaps you should make your own decision. The last TRF decision didn't seem to work for you ;-)

Hi Dino,

Yes, it really is a wonderful piece. Wearing it that first day, though, I realized after continually scrutinizing the watch that the dial just isn't singing to me. But I suppose that's a bit of a minute thing. Unfortunately, I'm rather fastidious about the look of dials. Of course, there's nothing wrong with the design of the dial. I imagine it just took a day of wearing the watch to realize how much I prefer the look of the matte dial with tritium.

On the other hand, it is a supremely comfortable watch. I owned a 16610 z-serial before this one, and find this watch to be appreciably more comfortable for me. It is lighter, but still feels very solid.

Overall, the piece looks great. I just wish I could make peace with the dial.

Totally differant watches IMO as the 14060M would be truly a water safe watch and the lume would work at night.

While a 5513 is a great watch it's "vintage" and while it could be a differant way to take your collection...it would not glow at night and many may not actively use it for water sports.

Maybe you can own both and keep in mind you will get killed on the trade. There was another post in the last few days about somebody trading in a 2-3 week old 14060M for a Sub-c and having to come up with more than $4,000 to make the trade.

There are some decisions that one must make on one's own.

What advice can people reasonably offer in this case?

They can only offer their personal opinions and preferences.

Essentially, there are only two choices. Keep the watch or sell or trade it for one you like better.

Who among us knows better than you which watch you would prefer?

I submit that not one of us knows you better than you know yourself.

Just the dial. Nothing about the watch overall. The dial on the 14060M is not singing to me, but it took me a day of wearing the watch to realize this.

You know the answer. If the dial does not sing to you today, it won't tomorrow and it will obsess you. And the best moment to sell your watch is now, because it's mint.

The 5513 is truly different and awesome, and I dive with mine. The plexi makes a great difference, more than the dial imho. I own three 5513, one of them with a glossy dial and white gold indexes, and the dial looks gorgeous through the plexi. I also have a 16610 and the sapphire makes it completely different.

Yes, I think this is what is happening: the dial is not singing to me, and it is beginning to obsess me. And the plexi, yes, that too. I love the plexi.

You obviously already know the answer to your question: Sell the 14060M and find a 5513. You're welcome...

I kinda went through the same thing. I had my SD for a few months. It just wasn't singing to me. I kept it for awhile and try it on various straps. Then one day, I decide it was time to move on. I flipped my SD for a Sub-C. I have absolutely no regrets. It has been nine days since I bought the Sub-C. Every single time  I look down at my wrist, I just smile and I know I'll have this watch for a very long time

No irritation...just couldn't understand what's not to like. Vintage is a different world. You will find more details to obsess about. A very personal decision...

Good luck.

Good to hear the thread wasn't irritating. I'm new here, and still a bit unfamiliar with the way things go, so I wasn't sure.

But you're right. It's a great watch. I don't fully understand it myself.

Of course the decision to keep or sell is yours but at least keep it for now and start searching for the 5513. Once you find the one you want then sell the 14060M. This way you spend some more time with the new watch and it may grow on you. And then you can just add the 5513 to your collection!!!

The watch is beginning to grow on me. I think I will keep it. Not 100% certain, but getting there. I'll look for a vintage piece sometime in the near future. Don't think I'll be happy without some modern and some vintage. I checked the watch's accuracy, by the way, and found it's gaining only a second a day.

Glad to have arrived at a decision. Many thanks to all of you for your advise.

Cheers!
